WEEKLY CHAT (non-osprey) SUNDAY JANUARY 11, 2015

Happy New Week all: OH and I are off to see The Imitation Game tonight, then will pick up dinner from our favorite Chinese restaurant on our way home.

Heather: You're not living a sheltered life, or if you are, we're all there with you (and happy to be so). Seems like bad language and a general lack of civility are endemic these days - it's so depressing. And to think the English language is so rich yet people have to use the "last resort" words first. :-(

Clare: My friend's daughter is a Downs Syndrome adult now and still needs supervision. It must be a huge worry, especially as parents age. Didn't know it could also mean heart problems as well.

Brenda: Hope the Quiz was fun.

Thanks all for posts! Take care.

  • Annette - Glad you're enjoying your I phone!!! My tablet doesn't recognise it LOL!!!
  • my photos and jewellry are the things I am most sentimental about  but I also have a pile of love letters tied up with blue ribbon and tucked away somewhere, we were engaged for 18 months and working a long way away from each other so wrote lots of letters .  This was from 1955 - 1957 so not so much telephoning then!!!

  • At one place where my youngest son lived in Yorkshire they used to get their clothes stolen off the washing line and had to remember to take everything in before they went out.  My sister had the same thing happen where she lived too.

  • Hi, all.

Several of us on my Facebook page are watching Tommy Caldwell and Kevin Jorgenson in their final push to reach the summit of El Capitan in Yosemite National Park. They are free climbing the Dawn Wall, and the feat has never been successfully completed before. They're due to reach the top this afternoon.

NBC News is live streaming the final leg of the climb HERE. There is no audio.

    Hope you all are well.

  • Glad you are enjoying your new phone,ANNETTE! I recently got a smartphone but sadly, not an iPhone. It took a while to get used to but as you say, lots of uses. Even the internet when the tablet is charging and PC not fired up.

I'm feeling a bit RANTY this evening, have had Sheana's well meaning but terribly bossy friend from Aberdeen on the phone. The last straw was when she criticized Sheana's Christmas letter. She thought that the Home had written it and mocked the photo on it, of S with her 96th birthday cake. She decided that it wasn't S's cake at all!! Of course it was Sheana's cake, I took the photo! Gritting my teeth, I told her that I had written the letter but S had told me what she wanted to say. The words were mine but the sentiments were Sheana's. In the scheme of things it is not important but she also now wants S to move to Aberdeen, to a Home near her, where S will get organic vegetarian food and better care. Obviously I have referred her to Sheana's nephew who holds POA. OH dear. I'm sure that this sort of thing often happens when family/friends have differing views on what is best. I'm just trying to stay out of it. She is also querying the funeral arrangements, poor Sheana is still very much alive!!!

  • HEATHER - I would say that referring that awful woman to the useless nephew is the best thing that could happen!  No need to knock their heads together, I am sure they will manage that for themselves!

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!

  • Diane: Just took a look - can't imagine doing that, but oh well... I gather folks are at the top ready to welcome them.

  • Annette: Yes, their families and friends are on the summit now, waiting for them. I don't know whether they're going to make the top by dark or not. I know that they climb at night -- and sometimes prefer to for better traction. But their corporate sponsors would probably like for them to make the summit in daylight for the best media coverage. It's been a fascinating climb.

  • Diane: I was wondering about corporate sponsors. They don't seem too far from the top - I'm glad they gave us a distance shot to see where they are. I wouldn't want to be watching any kid of mine up there.

Heather: Where does S's nephew live?  If he's smart, he'll realize you take wonderful care of her and nix the idea of moving her to bossy friend's town. She clearly doesn't realize she'll spend all her visits untangling necklaces and finding stolen underwear!  Wonder if she thinks there'll be anything in it for her - if you get my drift....
