WEEKLY CHAT (non-osprey) SUNDAY JANUARY 11, 2015

Happy New Week all: OH and I are off to see The Imitation Game tonight, then will pick up dinner from our favorite Chinese restaurant on our way home.

Heather: You're not living a sheltered life, or if you are, we're all there with you (and happy to be so). Seems like bad language and a general lack of civility are endemic these days - it's so depressing. And to think the English language is so rich yet people have to use the "last resort" words first. :-(

Clare: My friend's daughter is a Downs Syndrome adult now and still needs supervision. It must be a huge worry, especially as parents age. Didn't know it could also mean heart problems as well.

Brenda: Hope the Quiz was fun.

Thanks all for posts! Take care.

  • Been out for some fresh air - we went to Tatton Park which is not too far away, and met many, many dog walkers. It was fun commenting on which dogs looked most like their owners!! Also a chance for us to discuss which kind we prefer, ourselves! As my OH has been ill, & has needed cheering up, I mentioned the possibility of perhaps getting another dog - he barely drew breath when we had this talk just before Christmas, before he said "Yes!!". So watch this space........
  • Rita - liked your description of the bird food wars!! I laughed a lot this morning when I saw a Starling with a whole beakful of stale pastry I'd put out on the bird table. He had gone along the garden path with it, but dare not put it down to eat it, as there were a couple of determined sparrows stalking him: every time he tried to let go, to eat it, they dashed in and pinched a bit!! It was very comical. Eventually he went amongst the shrubs to get some peace. This morning we saw a large amount of tree branches on the pavements on the way to drive to the park, and in the park there were some huge branches down on some of the really old oaks and beeches.
  • Brenda - Well done on getting 3rd place in the Quiz, although it must be annoying to think that it was only a couple of points which made the difference between victory and defeat ;-)
  • hi all  just looking in via tablet.  Thanks for newsso far, will reply properly later.

  • Morning all: Rained all night here - just gentle but steady. More, more!!    The Imitation Game was really good; I imagine they took some license with dramatic additions here and there, but Benedict C was brilliant. Now I want to read the book it was based on.

dibnlib: What a nice offer from the hotel - and great P.R. for them for the sunny days ahead.

AQ: What is with the weather? Those temperature swings can really cause havoc with noses, etc. Take care.  How is nanny duty going? And how is daughter doing with the twins and Little Miss?

Brenda: Is there a third-place prize for quiz participants?

Had nice chat with sister in Lincolnshire this morning; they're all still getting over the wretched cold/cough business from Christmas.

Brownies are cooling on the counter and another batch is in t he wings (I freeze them in small packets and they thaw out beautifully).... a nice gray day with yummy chocolate smells in the house - perfect!

  • sorry about the blank post above,I have been trying to post a picture for ages but it just would'nt work whatever I did, so tried one or two others and they would not post either so ended up having to delete the post that was going to go with the picture, then    tried to delete the blank!   Does anybody understand all this rubbish I'm talking??

  • Good to read all the posts: everyone seems much more relaxed this week! We have had a slow weekend, and yet accomplished some important tasks, such as planning the veg garden and writing a list of seeds to buy, so it was good to spend time looking ahead. Had a phone chat with Daughter#2 today: after cuts Friday and Saturday, their power stayed on today at the temporary house, and all was well at the other house when they finally summoned up the courage to go and check!

Brenda – congrats on the quiz.

Lindy – suitably unsurprised to read that you and OH are discussing dogs!

Annette – send Brownies! I am sure I could smell them when you said they were cooling on the counter!

Now going to watch the second Miranda from New Year.

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!

  • RITA - I did wonder!  There is a Thread in the Forum about non-posting pictures, but I haven't read it in detail.

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!

  • OG - I see now that people on the other threads are having exactly the same problem.
