Yikes! I remember writing 1950 for the first time on a paper at St. Theresa's!! :-(
Happy New Week.
Just popped in to say that gales resumed at 4am and by 10 am they were joined by horizontal snow and that hasn't stopped since. So around 3" so far and its still falling. Daisy is hiding under her duvet praying that we aren't silly enough to venture out. Woodburner now lit so she soon wont be able to resist tip toeing out to luxuriate in front of it.
I gather quite a lot of people are still without power but we have been very lucky.
When we moved to Scotland it was with a sigh of relief that we left the neighbour from hell behind. Not sure why people have to be obnoxious.
Heather, Good that Sheana's nephew has, at last, shown a little appreciation of all that you do.So sorry that your new neighbour has introduced herself in such a rude and provocative manner. She may need your help or cooperation one day. I wonder how she will feel then. Do try and continue your own happy life.
Wendy, Hope you don't get much more snow, but the forecast doesn't look good. You do paint a lovely picture though, of snow outside and the woodburner blazing, with Daisy, eventually, lying in front of it :)))
OG, Well done on your ancestry. We are doing very well with our's. I do laugh when the computer reminds us each morning that it is our great, great, great ??? 's anniversary or birthday.
Still very windy down here, too, Linda, but I do keep reminding myself that we are lucky that we are not getting the real storms. Quite a few fences down, plus tree branches and the odd tree. I have put some bricks in our bins as they keep blowing over and the noise they make, startles me.
We are going to our local Conservation quiz and supper night. Usually a vey enjoyable evening.
WENDY hope things won't get too bad but you will undoubtedly cope better with snow than us townies!
I spent the whole one and a half hour visit to Sheana looking for and finding 'stolen'items and trying to untangle several necklaces which she keeps all jumbled up in her handbag in case they get stolen. OH has lots of bank money bags here, the wee plastic ones, left over from his charity fundraising days, so they will find a good use.
No more news from here, except that we had a welcome visit today from youngest daughter, husband and children. They helped me out by taking home nuts, shortbread and soft drinks left over from the Festive Season. We just don't need all those calories!
Take care all-
Heather B said:Our new neighbour in Sheana's former house has not endeared herself to her neighbour on the other side. Said neighbours granddaughter, perhaps stupidly, parked outside new neighbours gate while she ran into her granny's house for something. New neighbour appeared and threatened to call the (f word) police. Also shouted that she was going to get the council to make the road immediately in front of her house a disabled parking area because her son can't walk very far. I hate to say this but I have seen her son (who has Down 's Syndrome) walking with no apparent problems though admittedly only from the house to the car. She has a driveway, like us---- He may get picked up sometimes to go to a day centre or similar, I don't know.
Heather B said:I got a nice surprise today, her cousin and his wife sent me a basket of hyacinths. Her nephew overpaid me what Sheana owed me for her Christmas Jumper and said to use it for chocolates for myself and OH as he was sure that Sheana would want to give me something for Christmas!!
Our herring gulls are red listed birds. Think about that the next time you hear some flaming idiot calling for a cull of them.
Morning all: Bird remains deposited outside patio door today (naughty puss) and now my huge Monarch butterfly caterpillar has gone missing. Not the sort of thing a cat would go after, surely? I got some milkweed in November and had three caterpillars on one plant; they ate it all up and what with Christmas, etc., I didn't get any more plants until after the holidays and two had starved and gone to butterfly heaven (felt bad about that!). Did manage to relocate the last survivor who had got as fat as a house this last week (you should see how much those critters stuff away). Anyway, was waiting for him to go pupal and have searched the plants high and low but no sign of anything resembling one and no bodies on the ground around the pot. Wonder where he went.
Heather: Nice that you got some goodies from S's family - but an hour and a half sorting through her tangled necklaces? I've done that for granddaughter - with a sewing needle to separate the links. What a shame about the new neighbor starting off on such a bad footing with the other neighbor. I could see her being upset if there was a car parked outside her gate all the time. Is there no sidewalk and if so, wouldn't that mean it's available to all comers? Maybe new neighbor is worn down by taking care of her disabled son - and who knows what else is going on with her? - but that doesn't excuse bad language and threats as the first salvo. Bummer. We're finally through all the leftover holiday treats except for some yummy cheese which I've been bravely slathering on crackers and washing down with glass of wine before dinner. :-)
WendyB: Assume Daisy has now ventured out to enjoy the benefits of a toasty fire. Take care.
Rain was forecast - just possibly - for tonight and tomorrow morning, so of course it's been raining since I got up. Hope it sticks around all weekend.
Yes CLARE, I had wondered about her son maybe having a heart condition and of course as ANNETTE said, she probably has got her hands full. It can't be easy looking after her son, he is, I understand, 24 years old. I don't have much experience with Down's but when my eldest daughter was in London having heart surgery aged seven, there were a few Down 's children also there. I was just shocked and surprised by her language and response!! Maybe I live a sheltered life these days!!!!
Heather I do admire you for your devotion to S and she and her family are privileged to have you on board.
The sun came out and we took Daisy for a walk down and over a very high River Spey...sadly the weather took a turn for the worse on the way home. Fed the birds..again..stoked the fire and drew the curtains. Newly discovered gritter arrived..:-)
Good evening. A stay-at-home wet-and-windy day for us. Daughter’s power was off again this morning but came back during the day. More family history today, but no exciting discoveries.
Heather – I think your dedication to Sheana’s needs (real and imaginary) merits more than a box of chocolates! Sorry the new neighbour is not easy to live with. I hope your OH is fully recovered from the infection by now.
Brenda – I hope you are doing well in the Quiz this evening – always good to have a social event just after the end of the recent celebrations! We start various meetings this week – unfortunately 3 of our 4 organisations all resume the same week, so may be too tired to manage them all!
Good to see all posts, but sorry replies are limited!
Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!
Starting new thread - oh crikey, did something wrong, but must rush to go out. Sorry link is MIA (and not even a posh one!)
