Yikes! I remember writing 1950 for the first time on a paper at St. Theresa's!! :-(
Happy New Week.
I just received overseas Xmas greeting “return to sender”. I knew as soon as I got hers that I had used an old address. People who change addresses should send their Xmas mail early, very early.
Reached 42 C yesterday, then late in the day – welcome rain. Today is extremely hot & humid. 95% of bushfire is controlled, some trees will smoulder for weeks, especially the roots. 32 houses lost, 40+ sheds, then there are the sheep, cattle, wildlife, fencing lost. The fire is capricious – a house completely burnt yet next it the clothes line with pegs survived. Roads still closed due to fallen trees or danger of others that are likely to fall. The Tour Down Under is due to pass through the bushfire area in 2 weeks time on Stages 1 & 3. It is raining again.
Must away to do chores. OH is on nanny duty today. Dau has air-con so he will be cool until he gets into hot car to come home. Car has air-con but he’ll feel the heat for a few km.
Evening all: Don't ask me what I did today. I seem to be in a post-Christmas fog. Oh yes, went to friend's house for coffee and pastries and swapped Christmas stories. Then to yoga, then late home for dinner. Not much, so how come I'm so tired?
Lindybird: Sounds like a fun day out with friend.
AQ: Must be a relief that the fires are under control; that kind of random destruction sounds very familiar.
I'm getting used to the iPhone - I was pretty ambivalent the first week, but the sound quality is so much better than my ancient phone and there are other interesting options, so I guess I'll keep it.
Have read all the posts and see that we're all adjusting to normality.
Take care everyone and have a good Thursday.
A really miserable, dark morning, with continuous very heavy rain and still windy.
Linda, We no longer have a milkman here. He retired and nobody seemed to want to take over, so I have to make sure that I don't allow us to run out of milk. Always a shock to have to pay a bill, which has accumulated for a few weeks.
Clare. I see on that the largest container ship has arrived in Folkestone. I don't know how it stays afloat.
Lynette, Pleased to hear that your OH is now recovering. I really do hope you haven't caught his bug.
AQ. Good to read that so many of the fires are under control but so much remaining disastrous situations and with those temperatures, there must be the threat of further fires starting.
Annette, Pleased that you are getting used to your iPhone. Sounds as if you need a day to relax at home.
Good morning. Gasman here – heating hasn’t totally broken down, but erratically doesn’t work; when we feel cold, OH turns up the thermostat several times before checking the boiler, so I decided it needs seeing to – under contract, of course. When he’s done, we can shower and take ourselves to Morrison’s for groceries – a better day today, but apparently wind and storms will build up again tonight.
Linda – pleased to see Chester was enjoyable and the “retail therapy” seems to have helped you to feel better!
AQ – pleased to see the fires in the Adelaide Hills were better under control, and hope no more get started in the high temps. Sorry that “Nanny Duty” has had to resume for you and your OH – but glad that Daughter has good air-con.
Annette – I think I must have been in that same “Post-Christmas Fog”!
Boiler is getting new parts to help it fire up better, so worth having him visit.
Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!
Good morning all have been reading but not posting as not had a lot to say. I find this time of the year very flat and feel quite lethargic and reading through the posts I am not alone. Looking forward to Sping when trees and plants burst into life again. Having said that I still have roses in bloom, both bushes were trimmed right down in October. Weather definitely confusing nature.
Lots of heavy rain overnight and several roads flooded locally and Bournemouth Gardens is looking like a large lake. More forecast tonight with strong winds but not as strong as they will be for our friends in Scotland. My fingers are crossed that you do suffer and damage.
Went to see the Consultant yesterday and things are still good so regime to stay the same, consultant visit every 4 weeks followed by chemo for 5 days. It has become a way of life now and we are both thrilled that is producing such good results. 2 years on I feel and look so much better, long may it last.
AQ pleased to read that the fires are more or less under control now but at a cost to the poor souls who have lost everything and also loss of animals. It is good to know that people have rallied round to help those less fortunate. Hope Nanny days were not too testing for you and OH.
Lynette hope your OH is feeling better and you are well enough to swim. Thanks for pics of Harriet and her chicks, just lovely.
Lindybird pleased you had an enjoyable day with your friend and taking in a nice lunch. I do hope you are beginning to feel a lot better ampnd yesterday did not take too much out of you. Had to smile about yiur OH not putting things in the right boxes or bags. I am the disruptive one when it comes to putting decorations away. I get the right box but can't fit stuff in so you can close it properly. OH is probably more patient than me and takes his time to get things back where they should be with lids closed.
OG good to see you again. I had seen the article about Kellan and felt so sorry for Dave Sexton who posted some wonderful blogs about him. No wonder he is heartbroken. What a nuisance about the heating not working properly, amazing how things break down when you most need them. Hope the wait for new parts is not too long. Safe journey when you go shopping and hooe you get back before the dangerous weather hits.
diane that is such sad news about the Cassin's Auklets. Large are so probably difficult to understand why this happened. I guess you are now in the grip of some exceptionally cold weather. No wonder the RTH is keen to join you inside. Hope the haircut is not too bad after he start,ed you.
Heather sorry your OH is not 100% and it so difficult to get a doctor appointment. Hooe the AB's will help. It reminds me once again how lucky we are here in Dorset That we are able to appointments for the same day with a doctor who just deals with emergency appointments. I do agree though that people can and do abuse the system. Our surgery puts a list up at the end of each month giving the number of appointments missed and the hours wasted. On a lighter note you did make me smile with your comment "pot, kettle, black" situation. I expect you are well pleased that you did not have to purchase a new dryer.
rita it was a shame you could not meet up with family for the new yeaR but that would have been a long way to drive especially if the weather had turned nasty.
Annette well done on getting to grips with your new phone, I am still undecided about getting one. Hope you managed to complete your financial recording without too much hassle. Think I heard that your weather is exceptionally warm at moment.
Brenda pleased you managed to get some bargains in your favourite shop. The weather here was pretty awful last night, very heavy rain. It has stopped now blue sky and sunny. You should get some of the same soon.
Take care all will be thinking of you in the path of some very strong winds.
