Yikes! I remember writing 1950 for the first time on a paper at St. Theresa's!! :-(
Happy New Week.
Washer and dryer have been going since 7:30 this morning. A final load of washing going now; then will do a hot wash of all the rags, cleaning cloths, etc.
Heather: Have a nice Pinot Noir going - I said to my OH, 'The sun must be over the yard arm somewhere!"
Have a good Sunday everyone.
Annette - TQ for starting us off again - in the new year. Talking of which - New Year Greetings to all on this thread - was away over the "bells" with friends and only returned today. Think I need to join the washers and ironers shortly!!
dibnlib - interested in your "Kale sprouts" - what were they like and where did you get them?
AQ - really hope the fires around Adelaide are nowhere near you as they sound to be difficult to bring under control
Thank you Annette for starting us off.
Down came the decorations & Xmas tree, all packed away, OH & I checked & rechecked, then I waited a day before packing boxes away. Yep, we missed one.
Who said Easter began in Jan? One supermarket was selling hot cross buns on 27 Dec!!
Bushfire still raging NE of Adelaide. 12 homes destroyed & possibly 20 more, too dangerous to check. Towns Williamstown in north & Inglewood in south are in danger. Boarding kennels in Inglewood saved 45 dogs but lost 30 and all the cats. Many people are away holidaying and cannot return to check homes as roads are closed. Fire is burning on all fronts, must be controlled before worse weather on Wed.
AQ: OZ fires made our news this evening. Just awful about all the houses lost, and really awful to hear that so many animals were trapped and lost. Terrible. Do hope they can get a handle on it before Wednesday. Are you getting a lot of smoke in the city?
Washer/dryer having a well-earned rest. Ironing on the agenda for tomorrow, but there's not too much.
Dreadful news about the wildfires in Australia.
LFW I first saw kale sprouts in Markies a few weeks ago but didn't buy them. Next time I saw them was Hogmanay and they were renamed kale flowers and this is just what they are. Mini kale, steam or micro for 3 mins which is what I did. They are very nice. Anyway I am a sprout fan so while they are at their best that is what I prefer. Off for another swim in 15 mins. Playing hookey from church.
Hi, all. Hope everyone is having a nice weekend.
Happy full moon! It's at 4:53 a.m. tomorrow morning in the U.K. 11:53 tonight in the eastern U.S. and 8:53 tonight in California.
I popped in to tell AQ that I'm sorry about the awful bush fires and that I hope you and your property will stay safe. Frightening for all in the area.
Take care, everyone.
Linda – No deaths from the bushfire – the 2 missing were located late yesterday. It must be hard tracking people, some to evacuation centres, others to family & friends. Injuries have been few & minor. Facebook has been a boon to help relocate horses, lots of offers & some 2000 horses relocated. More than 35,000 acres destroyed so far, much of it steep gullies difficult to access. Perimeter of the fire is more than 125 miles & with wind changes, it is burning on all fronts, making it difficult to control. They are concentrating on protecting pockets of homes at greatest risk & preparing for catastrophic conditions on Wed.
Annette, Liz & Diane - We are on the coast, to the west of the city, mostly westerly winds, we don’t get much smoke but I can see it piled above the hills. There have been small fires across the state since October. This one is fuelled by dry vegetation, high temps & winds.
Disasters bring out the best in people – volunteers fighting the fires, others providing sandwiches for firefighters, others offering goods & food to those who lost homes. Disasters bring out the worst in people – someone doorknocking collecting money, but no such collectors officially.
