As no one has made a new thread for 2015 I thought I would do it if that is OK....
I would also like to wish everyone a Happy New Year too. Here is a great video with a lovely Saxaphone Version of Auld Lang Syne.
Will check around to see if there is any news to post now.
EJ's Memorial Balgavies Loch Ospreys 2023
What a fantastic capture, Scylla.
Our herring gulls are red listed birds. Think about that the next time you hear some flaming idiot calling for a cull of them.
Scylla - Thanks for the beautiful photograph of Ozzie, I just hope that his foot will heal OK and that it doesn't affect him in any way.
Some exciting news in from Chris Wood, remember he sighted Blue MY in Gambia in December, well he has just had this update:
Quote from Chris:-
Back to sighting of Blue MY at Tanji Marsh last month. Ian Francis has sent the details of this Osprey and one fascinating fact about this Osprey, it comes from the Ythan Valley, North West of Ellon, Aberdeenshire. One of a brood of three, ringed in July 2011 and is from the same site as White UR, 2010. So I have seen two Ospreys from the same site in Scotland wintering at the same site in D Gambia, unreal and fantastic news.
Unquote.
Probably this is the first time that two birds from the same nest have been sighted wintering in the same place, I think this is very exciting news.
With Chris's Permission
Mary what a fantastic coincidence. Thank you for the update.
Birdies LG DU update.
It is brilliant Mike. Lets hope he manages to see Rothiemurchus when he is next out there, everything crossed for him.
That is wonderful news. Two birds from the same nest, but different years, each wintering in the same marsh. Amazing. I have to say though, that I really do think that White UR(10) is a fine looking female. I wonder whether she has a nest, and where. Rothie is looking for a mate!

It would be great if we could find out if White UR is breeding or not, someone will know Sheila, and we may find out eventually :-) I think Rothiemurchus is destined to be a bachelor boy :-)
LOL Mary. It is such a pity that his tracker has failed, but he was a regular in the LotL area last year. Someone will probably come across him.
Well lets hope that if Chris doesn't see him in Africa, that he will be sighted at his usual haunts in Scotland, fingers crossed he might just pop in to check out the LotL nest again this year :-)
I know not an Osprey but for the sencond year in a row Harriet & Ozzie bald eagles in south west Florida have lost very suddenly the eldest eaglet. It was very ill yesterday and died last night. Some seem to think that it had something stuck in his gizzard from Monday afternoon when it last ate. Almost a replay of last year at this nest with the eldest very dominant, the youngest continually bonked and pecked and not fed and then for the elder one to suddenly pass away.
