Happy new year, everyone! The lovely Emyr has posted a new blog.
Our herring gulls are red listed birds. Think about that the next time you hear some flaming idiot calling for a cull of them.
Thanks Mike. The osprey season is now very close.
Tiger Signature
Staff at Dyfi had a shock when testing the camera system yesterday!.
Birdies LG DU update.
What an absolutely stunning bird, Mike. You do get an impression of the other species of bird having a whale of a time while the ospreys are away! I'm still smiling about the mobile phone raven.
Thanks, Mike. Beautiful Buzzard but I hope it does not stick around. Don't want it preying on Osprey chicks!
Kind regards, Ann
According to Emyr they are a pair who nest nearby.
"
Yesterday's birds were a pair of common buzzards (Buteo buteo - not to be confused with turkey and black vultures in America, which are also (incorrectly) called buzzards). They are pair bonding ready for the upcoming season and have a nest close to Cors Dyfi reserve".
Let's hope they can all get on!!.
Yet more mention of Ospreys in Wales
All ready to go for Sunday 1st March
Looking good, Tiger! Maybe His Gorgeous Montyness will be tempted to return early.
I have just come across this wonderful video, posted at Christmas 2011. It was shot in June when Nora tried to feed Einion but didn't quite have the knack. She took the fish to the nest edge and practised until confident enough, when she tried again, this time successfully. I nearly needed a tissue!
I found the video on this blog from Emyr, which has some facts to remind us what to expect, or hope for!
