WEEKLY CHAT (non-osprey), Sunday 14 Dec 2014

Tis the season to be merry . . .

Did you hear about the Primary School Nativity Play?
Two children are dressed as Mary and Joseph, and they are on their way to the inn in Bethlehem.
Meanwhile on the other side of the stage, a lad in a shepherd's outfit is on a mobile phone, calling to make a reservation.

  • Good morning to everyone. Wonderful walk by the canal yesterday, but not easy underfoot, so had to be so careful.

  • Good Morning ALL. A very cold and frosty morning here. The bird baths are solid ice. Beautiful blue sky. Rain starts this afternoon and the temperature will lift.

Annette, Yes, we can object to the the proposed house plans. We had already planned a neighbours'  Christmas evening next weekend, so we will start earlier than planned and discuss it amongst our close neighbours before our Christmas celebrations. The houses will not be small / shoe boxes, Clare, but they will have small gardens.

Linda, Glad you had an easy drive home. Sorry about your parcels, though. I had arranged for a parcel to be delivered to my son's house, knowing that he would be at home yesterday. They waited all day and then went out last night . They found, on their return home, that the  courier had tried to deliver at 9pm and so returned the parcel to the depot !!

AQ, Not sure I could live with glitter on my cobwebs LOL. Not only do I sympathise with you all, but I do feel sorry for poor J, who is the one suffering from the severe reflux. I do hope the  Drs will help.

Dibnlib, Glad you enjoyed your walk but we don't want to hear that you have fallen on the ice !!!

Sadly they are building more and more houses nowadays which are far closer to being shoe boxes, complete with arrow slits for windows.  When we were house hunting years ago the first house we viewed had a master bedroom which was so tiny you would have run yourself over if you'd turned around in there too quickly, and the only staircase was a spiral one in the front room!  Absolutely horrendous.

--- The architects should her made to live in them, to see how impractical they are!!!
  • I rang the people I had ordered the books from & complained - its their couriers, Yodel who are at fault. Anyway, they are resupplying my books and have suggested that I wrap the damaged ones in the packaging of those, as the original packaging is totally destroyed! Then they will send someone to collect the parcel. Hopefully all will be well.
  • Morning all:

Lindybird: Welcome home. Kiddies can bounce back from some bugs very quickly. It's really nice to hear that the NHS provided such good care as there seems to be so much news about the effects of budget cuts, etc. Our new (Republican) congress is sharpening its knives with a view to cutting all kinds of consumer benefits and protections. But don't get me started....    Bummer about the packages; hope all goes well with the new batch.

Clare: Thanks for explaining about Chico; I like to know what I'm missing. :-)  Re new housing, small windows equals less expense for the builder.

Lynette: Did you know that the original Ozzie and Harriet were characters in U.S. sitcom?  Not very elegant names for such elegant birds!

dibnlib: Nice to see you. Take care on those slippery banks.

Brenda: Good luck opposing the plans for next door.

About to call sister in UK for bi-weekly natter before I head into the garden for clean up. Have a good evening all.

How about seeing what you're missing?

Our herring gulls are red listed birds.  Think about that the next time you hear some flaming idiot calling for a cull of them.

  • Well, we have a tree up, naked at present! Going to try & fight the 200 or so lights onto it tomorrow. We had a conference between the two of us and decided that although its a lot of work to "do" our tree, we wouldn't feel the same about Christmas without it . Also, found a big joint of pork in the fridge which I'd bought for this weekend, so we're having it tomorrow night. I'd forgotten we had even bought it! Tonight its a quick Cornish pastie from the freezer. Have been doing laundry all day and it feels as if we've been gone for a fortnight - we have no clean knickers left so have to get some dry, soon LOL!
  • Laugh a minute looking after a 4 year old..... "Why is Grandad going to sleep, Grandma?" - "Because he's tired" - "Why is he tired, Grandma?" - "Because he's old...." - "Grandma..... er, er, Grandma, can I have a breadstick?". !!!!! :-D
  • Your 4-year-old sounds full of life, then!  He sounds exactly what I would expect for a grandchild of yours, Lindy.
