WEEKLY CHAT (non-osprey topics) SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 2, 2014

Morning all: Check back the last page of the previous week to catch up with bits and bobs of news.

We put our clocks back tonight - and I also pulled out the space heater as  my feet are cold and I haven't dug out my toasty slippers yet.  We had more lovely showers today, but it's supposed to warm up later this week for a few days. We're in this in-between stage when it's quite warm during the day but decidedly cooler at night.

OG; Thanks for letting us know Diane is expecting snow; I hope it's not too severe.  My NY friends are dreading a repeat of last winter, when the temps dropped sharply early in the winter and stayed there all winter.

Take care all.

  • Good Morning. A spectacular sunrise, all pink & red clouds here today! Lots has been posted on this thread lately - I had just caught up with all the news and now there is more! Heather - so sorry to hear about the worry over poor Amy, do hope she is more stable today.
  • Annette - maybe you missed it, but besides young Tomasz ( nearly four) we now have little Amber May, born to our Eldest on my birthday at the end of August, and Matthew Tadeausz born to our Youngest on 28th October.

All are doing well, although Amber is having rather a problem with colic. We are off this Sunday to go & give her some cuddles, & treating ourselves to a night in a hotel so as to give the family some space.

  • Good Morning Everyone. A cold and frosty morning but with lovely sunshine.

Heather, I do hope you have some good news about Amy, this morning.

Linda, Sorry that I also asked about a further grandchild. I must have had a senior moment :-)) I obviously knew about Amber and Matthew.

Back later, as I am trying to clear up more leaves before the next rain belt arrives.

  • No problem, Brenda:  I am having a job keeping track of them all, myself!!  Like buses, coming along in threes when you have waited ages for one...

I came on this morning and then returned to edit my last post:  first, I had to sign in again on the desktop pc, then when I did my editing, found that the whirligig thing went on around and around and around....  I left it doing that for an hour, then gave up!

I was hoping too, for news of Amy from Heather.  Its such a worry when a child is ill.  I was very sorry to hear the tale of poor Claudia Winkleman's daughter, a lesson to everyone that these flimsy Halloween costumes are dangerous even though you wouldn't think so.  I do hope she recovers without scarring.

I was going to do a long list of replies yesterday, but I just couldnt find the time and now today we are off to the cinema later for our first Autumn treat this year, we are going to see "Turner" which has had excellent reviews.

I didn't take many photos on our recent short break (it rained an awful lot LOL!!)  but if I get around to it I shall put some on here another day.

  • Hello all

Amy has been discharged from hospital and is now at home with me while her Mum is at work. If we are worried we can take her straight back to the hospital. She is now free of ketones and not being sick etc. They gave her anti sick meds this morning which will last eight hours.

So far so good. The consultant saw her this morning and said nothing needed to be changed ie her insulin etc but the diabetes nurse thought that they might have to 'tweak things'. It is all very confusing and I am hoping that when she gets the insulin pump later this month things will be better.

Daughter was chuffed because she got a pat on the back as Amy didn't get DKA which from my very out of date knowledge refers to Diabetic Keto Acidosis and can be very dangerous. Any diabetes experts on here please confirm if I am correct!!

Thank you all for your kind messages x

  • Thanks Heather. Pleased that Amy is well enough to return home with you. I have no experience of diabetes, but I did Google DKA, which confirms your description, on the NHS site, I hope they sort out the confusion caused by the consultant and the nurse's comments. You are definitely going to need your holiday.

  • BRENDA I Googled it too, after I wrote my post!! I try not to look at medical websites because they usually scare me to death especially the US ones! You really wouldn't think that I used to be a nurse, but sometimes I think that a little knowledge is a dangerous thing :-((

  • Morning all:

Ah, Lindybird, yes, Amber. Of course!  It's either short-term memory loss or I was so busy trying to organize my trip plus family b/days here that it didn't get into my long-term memory!

Heather: Glad Amy is out and has avoided any complications. Good for daughter! I'm very selective when it comes to online medical stuff - Mayo Clinic and all the big teaching hospitals are good, plus the National Institute of Health.  When I was having my annual physical the other day, my doc had a rant about parents who aren't inoculating their young children due to stuff they read online.

Feeding the washing machine right now; take care all.

  • Heather - good news that Amy is out of hospital. Hope that she can remain stable, now, and you can get on with packing so you can look forward to your holiday.
  • I won't be reviewing the film - we got to the cinema, and the girl on the desk said "That film starts its run tomorrow!!". I protested that I'd read the listing in the local paper, but they claimed that they didn't know that the paper was given any film info. So we went shopping instead, Friend bought books for Christmas and I bought boring toiletries in the chemists. Then we had a cuppa & a gossip at home. We hope to return there next week & catch the film.
