NOVEMBER – Winter is setting in. With return to Standard Time the dark evenings are even longer. It will soon be dark by 6:00 p.m. here in southern Ohio. Many of our November days are just all-over grey, from grey skies to gray hills with leafless grey trees and grey atmosphere – just cold, damp and gloomy. Still too early to expect much, if any, snow. But on an occasional sunny day we might enjoy a heavy frost on lingering green leaves. And inside all is warm, colorful and cheery. All month (in my family, anyway) we are planning the Thanksgiving feast. Thanksgiving Day, a day set aside for giving thanks to God for all the blessings in our lives, is a national holiday and a major one for most of us.
Here at the Gabfest, we have the gloom of empty nests. But we also have the cheer of knowing that Millicent is settled in her warm winter home, while Breagha is enjoying his second winter not too far away. Our chat-room fires are kept burning brightly and our new TV/telly screen is always at the ready., so hopefully we can all keep our computers in working order and enjoy a little chit-chat, some music and maybe a bit of streetwalking. Special Events include the possibility of another Music Night with suggested Movie theme and a group streetwalk to some as yet mystery location.
So where is our Gabfest chat-room.? Have you ever wondered? Well of course, it is at some undisclosed cyberspace location in the beautiful Scottish Highlands, not too far from the Loch Garten nest, home of EJ and Odin.
Now that I have some spare time, I'm going back to catch up on some Thanksgiving posts.
Ann said, "While we did not have turkey for dinner, we did add sweet potatoes and cranberry sauce as side dishes to our chicken tonight as a nod toward the holiday! "
Ann Roast chicken can be just as traditional as turkey, especially for small gatherings, so you had a typical Thanksgiving dinner.
CC, I hope you enjoyed your turkey: I could almost smell the aroma down here. Also trust you got home safely after your dinner and visit with your friend.
And thanks for asking Willow, Yes I did enjoy my day. One thing bout being alone I can "do my own thing". While I often cook a small poultry (chicken, cornish hen, duck or goose} not this year. I ran across a pork shoulder butt on sale half price and that sounded good to me. So I took it out of the package, put it in a pan, then in the oven, (no stuffing, no glaze, just a sprinkling of salt) set the timer for 4 and a half hours. Then I was free for the afternoon. I baked a sweet potato (again no work) cut it open & loaded it sinfully with brown sugar and butter AND salt! Also Asparagus served with lime slices to squeeze over. Easiest Thanksgiving meal I ever prepared and very tasty if I do say so myself.
Now the roast is in the freezer cut in meal size chunks. The broth, naturally jelled and very delicious, is in the fridge to be cooked with homestyle noodles. UMMum. :) Now on to Christmas.

Hello all! Either Around the World or White Xmas are fine with me for another Music Night. It looks like evenings Dec 5/6 are out for me as well as Dec 13/14 though.
Speaking of squirrels. Did I get this squirrel link from here, or somewhere else of a squirrel stealing a GoPro camera - short and funny:

CHANGE AROUND - This time STIRLING has been around the Dunedin nest all morning. He was checking it out and has been moving sticks around.
Both birds Pinella and Stirling have been putting in appearances but as both birds are sedentary and are around Tampa Bay area all year they start off the season very differently than our UK ospreys at a much slower pace.

Thanks for the Dunedin update, Keith. It is good to see that Stirling and Pinlla are getting on with it, even if they do go about starting a family (setting up housekeeping) a bit differently than our Scottish birds.
Joanna has updated us tonight on both remaining Kielder Reservoir birds.
Blue 7H remains in Morocco near Azemmour but over the past recent days has travelled upstream on the river.
Blue UV remains in SW Portugal.
Both still look settled - Many thanks to Joanna at Kielder Ospreys.
Good evening all. Happy St Andrews Day to all hope youve all enjoyed the day.
I wonder if the Kielder juveniles will stay where they are they seem reluctant to move further south. Strange to stay in morrocco is that unusual, i have never heard of it before. Conditions must be to her liking !
Keith enjoy your party. June your asparagus sounds delicious and the sweet potato, not sure about the pork though! My mum used to make brawn jelly made with pigs head! EEK!
