NOVEMBER – Winter is setting in. With return to Standard Time the dark evenings are even longer. It will soon be dark by 6:00 p.m. here in southern Ohio. Many of our November days are just all-over grey, from grey skies to gray hills with leafless grey trees and grey atmosphere – just cold, damp and gloomy. Still too early to expect much, if any, snow. But on an occasional sunny day we might enjoy a heavy frost on lingering green leaves. And inside all is warm, colorful and cheery. All month (in my family, anyway) we are planning the Thanksgiving feast. Thanksgiving Day, a day set aside for giving thanks to God for all the blessings in our lives, is a national holiday and a major one for most of us.
Here at the Gabfest, we have the gloom of empty nests. But we also have the cheer of knowing that Millicent is settled in her warm winter home, while Breagha is enjoying his second winter not too far away. Our chat-room fires are kept burning brightly and our new TV/telly screen is always at the ready., so hopefully we can all keep our computers in working order and enjoy a little chit-chat, some music and maybe a bit of streetwalking. Special Events include the possibility of another Music Night with suggested Movie theme and a group streetwalk to some as yet mystery location.
So where is our Gabfest chat-room.? Have you ever wondered? Well of course, it is at some undisclosed cyberspace location in the beautiful Scottish Highlands, not too far from the Loch Garten nest, home of EJ and Odin.
Many of you may have received this same letter, but I wonder if it pleased you any more.
When I voted I felt like a cheeky imposter for doing so. However I could not find any restrictions on who could vote for Lady"s nest tree, so I went with my heart and cast a vote, for certainly I believed this particular osprey tree deserved such an honor.
The incident then slipped my mind, so I was happy to know that the tree had won, but also to know that my vote had been accepted. And a lovely letter it was, too.
Now I will sign up for their emails and hopefully vote again in February.
I find a pleasant picture at Ithaca bird feeders this pm, although the cams are not set up to highlight the birds properly. The gold of autumn leaves as well as the snows & ice of a few days ago have given way to the usual November dullness. However the blue sky peeks through the clouds and sunlight reflects off the pond where ducks (or geese) swim serenely, while a vriety of birds play about the feeders.
Added: A redbird feeds at the right side of the lower feeder, ID'd by his crest as seen in silloouette..
It is brighter (as usual!) at the Ontario feeding station, even though falling snowflakes sparkle as they catch the light. There are no birds present t the moment, so I didn't try to get a picture.
The Loch of the Lowes Blog has news and pictures regarding Lady's tree winning the Scottish Tree of the Year Award. The tree will now be entered in the Europe tree of the Year contest. Voting will be Feb 2015.

Good afternoon Willow, SunnyKate, Fish and any readers. Jessie has started his Scottish Music with "These Are My Mountains" Now "Wild Purple Thyme" (Love it!). Indeed I do feel like I am coming home when I hear these wonderful Scottish songs.
No better way to spend a Wednesday afternoon (for me, anyway) than reading the Gabfest while listening to Jessie Andrews Music of Scotland on WOBO.

Doves, sparrows and a redbird (cardinal) or two are enjoying the seed table usually occupied by squirrels. These feeding stations are located in a private yard in Prairie Village, Kansas, USA.
