WEEKLY CHAT (Non-Osprey topics) Sunday October 26, 2014

Hope you all enjoyed your extra hour in bed!

  • Heather, Our local news has been covering the glut of apples etc. in this area because of the ban on Russia. As you say, the supermarkets are full of foreign fruit. Their reply is that, as our climate is so unpredictable and they can't be sure of the available fruit from year to year, it is better for them to order from other countries. Our fruit farmers are then selling at a loss to the supermarkets. Even the food charities are saying that they have too many apples. It is a sin to see all the rotting fruit.

  • Margo, sorry about the clouds. We still have the sunshine. Hoping all the fallen leaves dry so we can gather them up, but it looks as if that will not be until tomorrow, maybe. We can only hope that the 'right' Murray appears on court today, otherwise Dimitrov could easily beat him.

  • Margo, The 'right' Murray was on court but I don't think Dimitrov played as well as he can. I am watching on my iPad, using my son's Sky code.

  • Brenda I was surprised that Dimitrov did not play too well but I have to say Andy has played some good tennis this week. Sun did not show its face again and now it is getting dark.

just had a peek at the Autumnwatch webcam on the red button on the TV and caught a starling murmuration.

  • Hi all, well hopefully the saga of the leak from tap connections may be over. Our friendly builder came this afternoon with brand new tap and fixtures and promptly fitted it. There does still seem to be a small residue of water pooling in the cupboard so not sure where it is coming from.  Have left doors open to dry out and he is coming back tomorrow to see how things are.  Hopefully no more flooding!!

Lindybird - what lovely pics of new grandson Matthew and also of Tomasz.

Thanks for your thoughts re Dau's friends, bride to be.  Dau. hopes to see her friend on Sat. so we may get to know more about what exactly happened. Apparently his last words were " I couldn't save her".  He must feel so cut up about it.

Managed a shorter swim today so keeping up my so called exercising!

  • Predicted max 32 C, however it's just reached 35 at half past noon. This is supposed to be Spring!!!!!

  • Seems like all the UK folks are buried under apples and strawberries.

Here's the last photos of my trip:  Back in California and just a few hours from home, we were traveling alongside Highway 101 through some of the state's many agricultural fields. One one side, the highway and on the other, a view of the coastal range (with the Pacific Ocean on the other side of those hills).  A bit dark, but the sun was setting, also there's the reflection - or is it a dirty window? -  in the second pic.

Will catch up with all your posts tomorrow!  Take care all.

  • Good Morning. No weather much, here! A bit grey, but not raining. Thanks for your pictures, Annette. You certainly had a wonderful trip. AQ - Good grief, that's hot!! Lynette - glad the taps got sorted out in the end. Let's hope that's the end of that story! Nothing worse than water. I have to finish tidying up, here and get my haircut, then we're off. Don't know how bad or good our internet will be there, so don't know if I can pop in for a few days. Take Care, All!!
  • Good Morning Everyone. Sun is shining, with record breaking,  temperatures for us all, forecast for today.

Linda, Have a good, uneventful drive, with no traffic jams and enjoy yourselves.

Annette, Thank you for your photographs. This must have been a trip you will remember for a long time.

AQ, If that is your Spring temperature, I can't imagine how hot it may become in Summer.

Lynette, I really do hope that your tap problem is now completely over. You must be so tired of it continuing so long.

Going to chance hanging the washing outside although, in spite of the sunshine, we must have had an early mist as everywhere appears damp.

  • Hello Everyone-  Dull, damp murky day here but very warm.  Better than yesterday though,  it poured with rain all day.   So I sat down to do my Income Tax return, a job I hate and keep putting off, so am feeling very relieved that it is over for another year!   today I am going to sort out some cactus plants for a meeting tomorrow afternoon.

Annette-  Thank you so much for all your pictures, it must have been a wonderful holiday.

Lynette -  Do hope your tap problem is sorted out at last, it is so awful having a leak.   I have water leaking out of the bottom of my fridge (inside) and I have done everything I can to solve the problem, my son had it out and cleaned it at the back etc, but nothing has cured it.   It is quite an old fridge and I would buy a new one but it is narrow -55cm-  and there is not so much choice of sizes, I want a tall one but cannot find one which will fit under my wall cupboards.

AQ. You do seem to be having hot weather, is it forecast to continue?     I liked the picture of your Crow/Raven,  it had very black legs, I do not think our crows have such black legs , more sort of dark grey, but Clare would be able to put me right on that.

    Have a good day all.
