Clare – do your Cockatiels ever lay and hatch eggs after all their “activity”?

When they first started mating (ages ago) she did produce an egg - but as we feel that seven birds are quite enough for us we've never given them a nesting box and she hasn't produced any more.  Limpy stops them mating as he worries that there might be more eggs and he also worries for the female's health - my reasoning is that we might as well let them enjoy their mating as we can't be there to watch them all the time!  Both of them certainly look in excellent health and I'm not going to worry too much if no eggs are being laid.  I assume she is capable of deciding whether or not she actually wants to lay eggs - and she certainly enjoys the related activity!!

Our herring gulls are red listed birds.  Think about that the next time you hear some flaming idiot calling for a cull of them.

  • I'm back again.... Been out & about, although, as OG says, today is the day when the grandchild is due!! Spoke to d.in.law an hour ago, and she is fine! As her mother is unable to be there until the weekend, she is hoping to hang on until after tomorrow!! We shall just have to wait and see!
  • Heather - I read your exciting news but have not had time to say congrats to both you and your son!! I expect you are thrilled.
  • OG - Good to hear that you all enjoyed your trip, and managed to get the shopping done too. It must have been cold, and windy: such a shame you had to miss your stroll in the park but a cafe is always a good second best!
  • Heather: Congratulations on the upcoming birth in your family!

Lindy: Best wishes to you and your family for the impending birth!

  • Just read all your news.

Dau. has managed to get someone from church to attend the meeting with her and the Chairperson so hopefully something will be resolved. As far as I can ascertain its not that she could lose her job more a plan of action to help her with the dreaded paperwork as according to the heirarchy she takes too long in doing.  Well, when you are only there for 4hrs in a morning and expected to write up several things, I mean!!! even I couldn't cope with that.  On top of that she has another job to go to in the afternoon  - has to do 2 jobs in order to stay afloat even though she is living at home.  Enough of my ramblings, just thought I'd get it off my chest.

There are more important things going on in the world - we're always reading about someone being killed or a horrible virus taking over many lives. Must remember all the good things that are going on too.

George, you and me both, waiting for April again, still only just over 6months to wait.

Lovely pic of mum and baby ele, Lindybird.

Pete's Pond put a vid on Facebook re family of ostriches and managed to get a shot of them

she'd brought them down to the waterhole for a drink.

  • Awwwww!  Lynette, they're so sweet - it's hard to believe they will grow to be such a huge bird.

  • OG – Yes I intend to return to my library research regularly, maybe even next week, as I need the not-for-loan books to help with the brief history I put with my church photos. Plus I may even choose the same day as Friend, then we can munch our sandwiches together & natter. As for Dau, she still has the nanny but t’other g-m won’t be helping as much as she has been. I shouldn’t complain too much as she does have part-time paid work. But I hope it doesn’t mean I have to take Miss3 to playgroup. Oh dear, I’m too old for this <grin>

  • Good Morning, All. Dark & damp here, so I suppose we should welcome the hour change at the weekend! Though as you probably know, I hate it when they do.....
