Weekly Chat (Non-Osprey Topics), 19 October 2014

Welcome to the new week! I hope everyone has a great one!
  • Hello Margo, I see we are both now included in the weather warning from 10am this morning. Still not as bad as others though.

  • Ha! I was just thinking of closing down computer as I am melting. Must find a cooler room. Good night (7.50 pm)

  • Wow AQ. They are high temperatures for your Spring. Good Night.

  • Windy here but dry with a blue sky. On our walk this morning it was also quite cold. Just finished ironing white shirts and put them away until the next funeral as it is the only time I wear them now as when I was working white shirts were part of the company uniform.

Diesel isn't too fond of the wind and will stand at the door and look out but if it is time for his walk he is out of the door and standing at the gate.

How AQ manages these high temps is something I am in awe of as if it gets near 30C here we are looking for a cool spot.

    Hope everyone looks after themselves.

  • Hello All.   A lot of rain here at the moment and very windy, my garden is suffering,  a trellis with one of my favourite clematis on it has been blown right over.    I think this will finally finish off anything that was still flowering.  I have spent some of this morning mending some of Ambers toys, the stuffing was coming out of them so they are all sewn up now!  I could not throw them away as they were all her favourites, she has them all in her bed now! A good job done!   Her absolute favourites are a pink flamingo with very long floppy legs  and an octopus with a squeaker at the end of each tentacle!

Hope everyone is alright and safe after all this bad weather, storms, etc,.

Going up to the shops now, back later.

  • Hi George, I know your gales have been more severe than here in E. Sussex, so I am pleased to hear from you and that you felt able to venture out with Diesel. Our last dog ( a labrador) hated going out in the wind in our garden, as the wind would cause the trees to pelt him with twigs, acorns etc. He would stay as near to the house as possible. If we took him to the shore in the wind,, when I would complain of getting sand in my eyes, he thoroughly enjoyed himself and he would be reluctant to leave. I have forgotten how old Diesel was, when he joined you, so I am wondering how old he is now ? He does seem to enjoy your walks.

  • Margo. It is so good to see you posting each day. Whatever you are doing, it is the right thing to do. I bet Billie hasn't enjoyed the wind today. My OH managed to cut the grass and clear the leaves yesterday, Surprising that in spite of all the rain we have had, he found that although the ground was soft, the mower wasn't doing any damage. He used the electric mower, which is lighter and does mean it takes longer to complete the job. It has been quite a windy week so that must have been drying up some of the moisture.
Rita, I hope Amber appreciates all your hard work LOL Have you managed to rearrange your hair appointment yet ? Sorry about your trellis. I hope that is your only damage from the rain and gales.

Although we weren't forecast to get the extreme gales down here, a person has been killed by a fallen tree in London and three people in West Sussex have been injured by another fallen tree. I hope there are no other reports of deaths or injuries around the country.

  • I've just read that there's a flood warning for Felixstowe Ferry.  That's less than a year after the flooding they had in December - I hope it will be less severe than forecast.

Our herring gulls are red listed birds.  Think about that the next time you hear some flaming idiot calling for a cull of them.

  • Hi all, glad to see Margo and George posting as well as the familiar ones.   Survived the day of wind and showers but we have got off lightly compared with other areas of the country. What about that lady being killed in Kensington when a tree fell on her, or the lorry where part of a tree pierced the cab - I don't think the driver was hurt though.

AQ - it looks like you are having a hot spring, just hope it cools off before the summer arrives or has it arrived early!!!

Decided not to go to the gym this morning as we had to go to our local library and I had to be at church early this pm as I was chairing our womens' meeting in the absence of our usual chairperson. Only 10 of us, no speaker as she had to cry off due to a family bereavement.  We had some poems read to us by our President instead and they had us in fits of laughter - good for the soul.

Will get to the gym on Thursday.  Having problems again with dau. re work related but hope it can be sorted before half-term begins. We never stop watching out for our children do we.  Will catch up with your news eventually.

  • Good Morning, All. Hope all of you in UK have survived the windy night - at least its calmed down now. Stories of various trees down and in Liverpool, some "unsafe" buildings has caused closed roads. The summer is definitely over!
