Daily Update, Sunday, March 28

Hi all:  Just mentioned on the new Weekly Chat that I won't be around this evening (Sunday evening)  UK time since I'll be in LA for the day and not home until late Sunday (6:30 a.m. Monday, UK time.)  Off to start dinner.  Happy viewing all.

    I never knew that before!

  • Tiger   EJ was always bringing in the red 'moss' or whatever it was, last year. I remember it so well! I made comments in the blog about it . I remember calling it (on one occasion)  a 'scarlet throw'  ....  definitely EJ and red. Not Odin. Unless he brought it in (and I'm not remembering that) to please her.  :)

  • Is anyone else having visual trouble this evening - or is it just my steam-powered puter?

  • Hi Balderdash, and welcome by the way, I've just looked in on the nest and it seems that the light source evident on previous evenings appears to be off, so it's definitely not your computer.

  • Hi Sandy - thanks for the welcome.  Have been part of the LG Osprey family for many years, but this is my first time on the forum.  Glad it's not my puter - I've been trying to fix it for the longest time.  Phew!

  • Sandy - it definitely was EJ with the fish supper.

Hi Chloe: Yes I agree it was definitely EJ.

I think that when she returned with the fish the light was fading and I got some images that didn't seem to match with the ones I recorded earlier. As I mentioned before I've been experimenting with capturing video and editing etc., something that I've not done before, and I didn't allow for the changing light conditions which had the effect of lightening some of her colouring.

I'm really pleased, though, that I've managed to get to grips with recording the webcam (I'm a bit of a tech luddite) and am really looking forward to recording when something really interesting happens!

  • Hi everyone.

Didn't get online until about 9pm BST.  So thanks to everyone for all the updates about events at Loch Garten and Loch of the Lowes that I've enjoyed reading through.  Thanks also for the brilliant info on ospreys.

Very sorry if this is a silly question.  Do ospreys store excess food, in the same way as other birds of prey sometimes do?

    Paul.

Warning!  This post contains atrocious spelling, and terrible grammar.  Approach with extreme edginess.

  • Er, I don't think so as a general rule Paul. Except when the chicks are growing and sometimes EJ saves some fish over night for the morning if there is any left after the family meal the evening before. Tiger might have a better answer. Usually, what the chicks don't eat, EJ does. Odin of course does bring fish in just for her and she will leave him some although he has eaten the head before presenting it to EJ. Lots of people will direct you to Roy Dennis' website since he IS the   authority on Osprey. Hope that helps a little.
