Hi all: Just mentioned on the new Weekly Chat that I won't be around this evening (Sunday evening) UK time since I'll be in LA for the day and not home until late Sunday (6:30 a.m. Monday, UK time.) Off to start dinner. Happy viewing all.
Morning all: See you've all been busy. Thanks for info about that sideways-head movement - interesting to think there's a very practical reason for it. Mono Lake as a nesting place is very interesting since it's been the site of huge fights over the water, which was diverted to build Los Angeles.. See http://www.monolake.org/ (see About Mono Lake.) They have webcams too, but haven't investigated, and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mono_Lake
Annette, what is that pretty green bird on the Mono Lake banner?
Terry in Cumbria
Annette - thanks for the links re Mono Lake. Very interesting.

The resolution of the camera image has improved as EJ just left the nest, swooping down behind the nest and then rising over the trees in the distance as a shallow 'v' shape, just a speck almost and then over the horizon at about one o'clock, just off top centre. Or landed in a distant tree possibly.

TerryM: Re that green bird, I've put more info on the Weekly Chat.
Great pics Alicat. Isn't she just wonderful!!
Everything in life is speaking in spite of its apparent silence.
Oh dear, looks as if it is beginning to snow :(
EJ just arrived at nest. Geez. With another huge branch in her talon!! Oh no, it's wriggling, - a big fish!!
And now she's gone. She brought it to the nest, then looked around as if someone else was expected to help her eat it, then took off again.
