Hi All: I'm a bit early starting this since it's right before midnight your time. Anyway, on the last page of the previous Weekly Chat, Tiger had some interesting info about what's involved in putting forward Big Ben. I had no idea. And Cirrus posted a shot of two very noisy creatures (thankfully we can't hear them!). And Soosin is looking for Karen. Had a nice day out with daughter; won't be around tomorrow evening your time as I'm taking the train down to Burbank Airport to meet a friend for dinner who's got a stopover there for a few hours en route to her home in Sacramento. Won't be home 'til around 10:30 p.m. - 6:30 a.m. UK time.
Morning all:
OG: Tell you what, you stay home and cook and I'll go out to eat all the time. Lindybird: I remember Stirling Moss and the old - I think - Forumla 1 cars. So sporty; not like these all-encased thingies where you don't seem to get the same feel of the speed they travel at (ghastly sentence structure there - sorry!). Wonder if the harsh winter there did away with the birds' "normal" nest building materials so dog hair is now in high demand..... TerryM: I often have a bowl of cereal late at night. Tiger: Baja is south of the border in Mexico - about 4.5 hours drive away, just to the border; the link doesn't say exactly where. I posted a couple of links to Mono Lake, which ChloeB mentioned on today's Daily Update as having an osprey nest. It's a very interesting place. LA stole all the water when it was growing, creating an environmental calamity they're still fixing. It's on the back side (Eastern side) of the Sierras. Fascinating place to visit.
OK Gotta get some stuff done today before I do the train trip. Back later! Have a nice day folks!
Annette - thanks for the info on Mono Lake.

TIGER..... good wee quiz, I only got one wrong.........the depth of water.

TerryM: Re the Mono Lake link, I think it's a Violet Green Swallow ("official" Mono Lake Page is at
http://www.parks.ca.gov/?page_id=514 and includes a warning for boats to stay away from osprey nests).

Thanks Annette, I half put the question on here, then realised you'd mentioned it on the Daily so I put it there, I'm sure we'll get sorted where we are soon ;))
Well, the sun came out again and instead of being grateful I was just annoyed, as could have loaded up the w. machine if I'd known it could have gone on the line instead of in the drier.
Annette: Hope you have a pleasant train journey. Tell us about it later. (especially if you have something nice to eat when you get there - I love foodie stories). Agree about the 'old days' of Formula 1 - these days it just isn't the same. Now I sound as if I'm 105 years old.
Yesterday we were given some duck eggs, which are such a lovely blue colour they inspired me to think of blowing them empty and then decorating them as an Easter decoration. So I put some pinholes in them and blew hard - it worked! Hav'nt done that for years. None of us fancied eating the contents (not even Dog, who will eat most things), so they went down the drain sadly; now they have been washed and dried overnight I have to be brave enough to paint them with some brush/pens I have for crafting. I'll tell you later how I got on or if it has been a disaster.
Number 2 Son gave me a Mother's Day card with the following quote on the front:
"You know the point your children have grown up when they stop asking where they came from and refuse to tell you where they are going".
- Thought about this quote when I rang No. 1 son yesterday to invite him to dinner, and he said that actually, he was in London and had been for a couple of days! (this is about 230 miles away from us). He is, however, going to return today, and will be here for a meal tomorrow when it is Husbands birthday.
Lindybird: Oops EJ just arrived at nest. With a fish I first thought was a branch. Anyway, I know things are going well with my daughter when she doesn't call or let me know what she's up to. Enjoy dinner with son - I'm off to gym for quick workout before train trip.
Just back from visiting my Mum. Stopped off at Vane Farm on the way south (bought a new pair of 10.42 RSPB binos) Stopped off on the jouney home as well and found out that EJ was home. How wondeful to be able to watch her again. Hurry up Odin please.
