OCTOBER - probably my most favorite month. Weather is usually cool, clear and crisp. The leaves in their brilliant hues are making spectacles of themselves against blue skies. I feel certain that it is just as lovely in Scotland as it is here in southern Ohio.
Millicent and Breagha are seemingly settled in their winter headquarters, while Druee has flown on her merry way, wild and free, unencumbered except for her blue identification ring. We hope that she too is comfortably settled in her winter home.
Osprey news from here on out will likely be scarce So any information that anyone has about ANY OSPREY will be doubly appreciated here on the October Gabfest. Or news of interest of any wildlife, for that matter.
October is the month some of us start our Christmas cakes. I do a short version which will not be started until December, but this month I will definitely be thinking ahead for decorations.
The October nights have a way of going from cool to COLD, so the bright, crackling fires of the Gabfest Chat Room will be very welcome. Come on in, pull up a rocker and set a spell. We can talk of ospreys past, present and future, Christmas cakes, streetwalks, gardening or whatever suits our fancy.
Every one says that to me but I did feel a bit of movement even the lady next to me, a USA person, did not feel it , I am just used to rock solid ground.
Jessie played a lovely Scottish song that I don't remember hearing before. Searching for it on You tube I found thi instead. This woman is just FUNNY in my opinion. Hope you think so too.

Fish, I didn't catch the name of the song and the only words I got were something like "pride of the clansman, Scotland for me."

Here's the latest data from Lonaig. He's still in the same area as before, nice to see him visiting the coast. It's possible he'll stay here, but he may well fly south at some point.

SHETLAND WILDLIFE Highlights for our two Autumn birding groups http://bit.ly/1tg4Y8w on Unst and Yell today included Eastern Subalpine Warbler, a female King Eider. Rustic Bunting, Wryneck, Barred Warbler, five Yellow-browed Warblers and a good assortment of common migrants including an obvious arrivals of Bramblings. In the south Mainland the Myrtle Warbler was still present and gave amazing views. Pic by Hugh.
Good afternoon all. Hope Lonaig stays in Portugal and saves himself the terrible Sahara crossing and Bay of Biscay. Fingers crossed for him. I always wonder how dear Druie is getting on and where is she?

Sue C has given an update on Rothiemurchus and he is entering the Sahara. Best wishes to him and I really hope he returns to breed next year. He never seems to be in too much of a hurry, does he? I get the feeling he is a commitment phobe!
Fish and June I would love to go and visit the kennedy space centre must be fascinating.
June I wasd 5 years old when my father found a job advertised while working on a pig farm in the New Forest. They sailed out with 4 children under 5 including my younger brother who was only weeks old. My poor mum was less than impressed!
