At the start of last month I said that the osprey season was drawing to a close, well it is virtually all over now.
At Loch Garten, EJ, Odin and the chicks have now all migrated. Unfortunately it now looks as if Seasca has come to harm. The good news is that Millicent has made it safely to Spain. The big wait for the return of EJ and Odin has begun. It is only about 204 days (over 29 weeks) until we can expect to see EJ again.
Lady at Loch of The Lowes finally left on August 4th. Will we ever see her again? Hopefully I will be able to answer that in April 2015.
Glaslyn has had a fabulous year. Another three fabulous chicks raised and yet another Glaslyn chick (Blue 80) identified as returning.
Dyfi raised two great chicks viz. Gwynant and Deri. Gwynant has left on migration and so Deri has the fish supply to herself.
Kielder continues to do well and we await the first tracking reports of three of their eight juveniles.
We had sad news from Dunrovin where the male called Ozzie was found dead. Very sad when a famous osprey comes to harm. To make matters worse thee is a suggestion that Harriet may have picked up and injury too.
Rutland still has its Manton Bay pair around. They are making sure that no other osprey tries to steal their prime nesting site.
So you best enjoy the last views of the few ospreys left. It will be a while before they are back.

Sorry this is not osprey related, but does anyone know why I get nothing when I go into the Osprey Sightings, and Technical Threads?

Starling same for me and others, haven't a clue why.
I am having the same problem and have reported it. The only way to get in is to go to the main heading, rather than 'Last Post', which then opens up the first page and use the far right symbol at the bottom of the page which takes you to the current page.
Birdies LG DU update.
Thanks Margo & Mike, I have tried a few times but always the same. I will follow your instructions Mike - thank you.
Thanks Mike.
That's how I get in M, also have reported it twice now & will report it every time it affects me ... blitzkrieg!!

This is the same problem which happens every time a username gets banned.
Great to hear the good news from Bassenthwaite! A relief he is in Spain before we had a chance to worry about the Bay!
I timer recorded the two One Show programs, as someone had kindly mentioned them, and the osprey bits were really lovely, and agree with Wendy re Roy's voice!
Hope this is the right place to put this. I enjoy following Alan's and others' recordings of osprey sightings and thought Col d’Organbidexka (on the Camino de Santiago), one of the main places to watch migratory birds in Europe, must be an amazing place to visit. I have just 'googled' it, idly wondering if I could persuade my OH to go for a long weekend when I found this:
"When I walked the Camino de Norte in October there were many bird watchers along the entire coastline. Unfortunately, they were shooting migrating birds. They had shooting shelters for miles along the flightlines and at the weekends it was wall to wall shotgun fire. How they get away with it is beyond me. Most of the 'brave gunners' were Spanish, but I did come upon a group of about 30 French gunners shooting wild boar outside Santander. The animals and birds had no chance of escape, as they surround the area and shoot anything that runs, or tries to fly out.
During a latter part of the walk there were huge gatherings of large birds of prey hovering over the high mountain tops. It was a magnificent sight to see them and a friend of mine who is a bird of prey fanatic is planning a visit there with his club some time next year. Let's hope he gets there before the gunners learn to climb."
Not such a great place then....
Depressing!
