2014 SEASON, MEMORIES, PHOTOS, VIDEOS OF MILLICENT, SEASCA, DRUIE, EJ & ODIN

At the end of every season we always have a Special thread for all the for the Captures/Videos/Memories of the Season, not just of Millicent, Seasca and Druie but EJ and Odin too.    So search your files for your BEST captures and videos and post them in this thread so they are easy to find and will be a nice memory for us over the closed season.

A TRIP DOWN MEMORY LANE - PREVIOUS SEASONS

2013   2012   2011   2010

I could find nothing for 2009 but did find this lovely POEM by Lindybird and if you look further down the thread you will also see one from Cirrus describing EJ's poignant wait with fish for Rothes!

Also I found a great report from JSB of his round UK visits to many Osprey Centres.

Here are my offerings, I could find no GOOD images of Odin and the Seasca and Millicent ones are not that great either!   I am sure we will see many beauties though!

Forum playing up so will post this then edit it....

When I saw this feed away back in May I feared for chick 3, however she was wily and managed to get herself in front many time, look at her now she has blossomed into the beautiful Druie.

Then in July she was the last to fledge, she was trying hard though and the very next day she fledged.

Cannot leave Odin out so a really bad capture but I am sure many will have great shots of Odin.

  • Thank you MARY for such a wonderful start to this thread.  I will indeed look thru my pics and post some here, but in the meantime I have the photographer's permission to add this wonderful photo of Odin bringing a fish to the nest where EJ, Millie, Seasca and Durie are waiting for him.  I'm not sure when it was taken but it must be this month when she was volunteering.

Edit:  The photo was taken on 10 July 2014.

  • A few ones, though not the best ones (which I haven't with me atm)

    The beautiful couple

One of many feeding times in which little 'un (Druie) managed to be in pole position.

The beautiful EJ on a pile of chicks

    The three Stooges

Odin on nest while EJ is feeding the girls and the nest seems crowded already

    Finally, a midnight wingercising

  • I did not save live stream captures, maybe I can add some photos taken from the Visitor Centre, picking some which freeze relevant moments I could live there.

The first egg containing Millie's embryo was laid short after the VC closed on the 11th of April. The next day, here's Odin in his second incubation shift this season. After long time, EJ returned to the nest with the tail of her lunch, which Odin promptly took away - and probably trashed in the nearest litter bin, there was little left to eat.

I missed Druie's fledge on July the 17th. When at the Visitor Centre I complained that there was poor organisation in letting Druie jump off the nest in coincidence with red kites being fed at RSPB Tollie. I will retain the name of the member I spoke to, I saw his/her face getting dark and I believe did not realise I was kidding... LOL

After the first flight, Druie stood in the nest for long time. There was a moment when all the LG girls gathered at the nest: Druie on the left, EJ and (likely) Seasca on the right, Millie finally coming to land - too far to read rings, I'm relying on excellent Scylla Mission Control to tell (but there's some uncertainty in the DU thread on whether it was Millie or Seasca, due to known limitations with the live stream). I'm also stealing from Scylla the video she took at the same time, it's funny to see the same scene from different perspectives (at 0:28).
