AUGUST - the month for migrations, tracking and empty nests.
The above picture is of the early flights around the nest of ALL the osprey sat tagged at Loch Garten. Looks like a celebration, doesn't it?
June, Sorry for the delay in replying--we have been busy all day. Thanks for your efforts. It seems Millicent did not roost conveniently near a road, thoughtless girl--LOL! Interested to see the next points on her journey. I can't quite make out the position of the camera for your shot of the bridge at Redbrook. There is an old rail bridge there, now only used as a footbridge to cross the Wye to a pub opposite Redbrook village. The rail line which used to go along the river Wye from Chepstow (where the Wye enters the Severn) to points north is no longer used, but there is a sweet little rail museum and tea shop at The Old Station a bit north of the village of Tintern. I will consult Mr. Gardenbirder and get back to you if he can work out the spot from where your Redbrook pic was taken.
Kind regards, Ann
Ann, I couldn't pick up Millicent's track near Redbrook, but hope to further north, also later as she progresses onward to the south. I googled Glyn Farm with no results, nor did I find an Inn at Redbrook. Not to say they are not there, I just didn't happen to stumble across one.
Haven't yet explored Tintern but hope to soon.
Fish, sorry I missed you today. But glad to see that you have mentioned Music Nights. Maybe tomorrow we will be on at the same time.
Keith, I'm glad you had a use for one of my GE pictures. You have contributed so much to the Gabfest by way of those records of yours, that I am happy to contribute to them in any way I can.
Sounds like you had a lovely day searching for osprey. Yes they are mostly gone by now. Hope we don't have any "Oswalds" this year who prefer to stay and enjoy a heather covered river bank to seeking the necessary warmth further south.
BTW, is the heather blooming yet in the Highlands? Or wherever else it might bloom?
"!!GOOD NEWS!!
From a lengthy report by Richard Thaxton 5 hours ago:
"Millicent has made it to Spain - and having done so by crossing the Bay of Biscay! Compared to poor Seasca, luck was mercifully on Millie's side."
A few minutes ago I went to the Main Blog, not really expecting to find anything new on a weekend. But there to my pleasant surprise is a lengthy report from Richard. I haven't read yet, but It is good to know about Millicent, Also apparently he has quoted an article about the 60h anniversary of the nest.

Thank you June, that is wonderful! A great blog to end the season with much needed good news.
I just wish both Millicent & Seasca had made it to Spain, I am still in shock at losing her so early.

At last some good news to end the Osprey season on. Glad the Ospreys have made it to Africa. Wonder if they will meet up with ""Mum & Dad"??? Now lets hope they come back in 2 years.
Hi Starling & Fish. Yes, I think many of us are still in shock and mourning at the so very early loss of Seasca
Keith, an excellent photo of heather AND of SUSAN!
