AUGUST - the month for migrations, tracking and empty nests.
The above picture is of the early flights around the nest of ALL the osprey sat tagged at Loch Garten. Looks like a celebration, doesn't it?
Keith, I am happy that you are now following GE tracking. The last I remember this was outside your scope. :)
The train photos are charming, as is the wee bit of history.
Thanks, Keith, Lonaig looks to be another bird to worry about! Perhaps he (or she?) will be pushed east by a strong wind and have its migration route corrected. Not sure I can stand the worry of following that one, but I trust you will keep us posted!
June, I wonder if Seasca's instinct to migrate was just too strong. After all, she set off at a cracking pace, but Millicent seems to be taking a more leisurely pace which might be for the best for her. An adult bird might have known from previous trips that the Bay of Biscay was very large but Seasca would not have known that she should stop and refuel before attempting to cross, especially considering that she had been flying so fast and for such a long time by then in her migration. It may just be a matter of very bad luck for poor Seasca--so sad, but I try to remember that she had a very good life while she lived--dedicated parents, lots of fish, mostly very good weather and almost no aggression from her sisters. Just very sad it was so short.
Kind regards, Ann
Good morning all Gabbers. Just read the blog about Seasca. I think its news we were expecting really. Hard to take and so early on too.I hope she didn't suffer. Millicent is doing welland seems to be taking it a bit more leisurely. I am happy to see that Breagh is continuing to do well and hope to see him next year.
Keith many thanks for the photos, it is a journey I would very much like to do one day! It just looks so fantastic over the viaduct. I have had steam trains pass my signal box sometimes and always fail to tale a good photo, because as its passing im usually too slow giving bell signals to the next box ! By the time I get going its disappeared in a puff of smoke and steam!
Fantastic photos and scenery! When we retire Id like to do many steam journeys. Retirement just around the corner 4 years to go! Not wishing my life away or anything LOL!
Heres one for you Keith, though not a fair exchange!
Heres one for you Keith though not a fair exchange!
Another even worse one!
Lucky enough to have a day off today so going now to get on with overdue house work!!
Aworrying time with all our youngsters leaving on their first migration and so very sad about Seasca. LG are due some luck soon surely? I have hopes for our dear Breagh, but don't want to become complacent like I did with Caledonia
