The osprey season has flashed past and it is hard to believe that this is the last whole month with the ospreys present.
The Loch Garten nest has been a very tranquil nest indeed. The birds now have their rings and trackers and about to enter the fledging window. Time to look at the fledging charts again. See fledging ages
The chicks at Glaslyn are already in the fledging window. One of them may fly at any time.
Sadly there are no chicks at Manton Bay or Loch of The Lowes to fledge this year. Better luck next year.
There was tragedy at Tweed Valley when the female disappeared and all three chicks quickly perished.
The last ten days of June were dominated by the saga of Nellie and her chicks in Nelson British Columbia after Nelson the male was sadly killed. With a bit of human help she is trying to bring up two chicks as a single mother. Right now it seems to be going well.
Both chicks at Dyfi have hatched and the chicks are growing well closely monitored by Blue 24 who is still not giving up. There was also a report of a fourth nest in Wales this year so that is good news.
There are now four nests in north west England which is excellent news.
Great news from Kielder too with them reporting a third nest with chicks.
So something of a mixed month but overall still lots of things to fascinate.
Tiger Signature
Aww thank you Tiger, I'm really hoping this chick makes it.

Thank you TIGER. Good to see Nel rescued but sad to hear the cries of Mum.
IMAGICAT
scylla, I agree but I just keep reminding myself that she was going to let Nel die.

Ha! I see that the "raptor specialist" raises another controversial suggestion - "and an adult to teach it fishing skills upon fledging" ;-)
Yep. The misinformation never stops does it scylla.

I think that "specialist" also thought that Nellie was put off fishing by the human help. Yes single parent families happen all the the time in the osprey world don't they? :) :)
Millie fledges. New blog from Loch Garten.
Bet you never saw anything like this before. See osprey with a problem

I couldn't figure out what was on its foot, had to read the legend afterwards. One very unlucky osprey to have been clammed, but one very lucky osprey to have met up with rescuers :-) Thank you TIGER.
