  • Hi, Patily - I bet he'll be back with it in a while!

Our herring gulls are red listed birds.  Think about that the next time you hear some flaming idiot calling for a cull of them.

  • When the whole family is present the nest is very crowded:

    Odin has flown.

  • Little One has found a leftover fish and is having a go at eating it without assistance:

    Now he's mantling over it:

  • Thought it was time I posted something - sorry to have been missing in dispatches but what with bad 'back, broadband, blurry images' etc, I've not really been able to post anything. [Thanks, SCYLLA, for your message checking I was OK :-) ]

Had to restrict computer usage as not good for neck problems, but have been checking in and cannot believe how peaceful the LG nest has been this year! Thank you to all who have been posting, especially the fantastic efforts of Scylla and Limpy.

This morning was the first time I'd seen a GEM trying to eat a fish on its own - as Clare captured above.

ID is a real struggle - I thought at one stage I could tell by the pattern on top of their heads

#1 a long elongated oval of black

#2 a definite V shape of black with the point at front fanning out to back with thin lines of white at edges

#3 equal stripes of white, black, white

but as their feathers change, I'm now not sure!

I do miss the old pop out player and the still cameras (which were the captures I mainly caught) but, of course, the real absence is SOUND!!! No EJ alarms calls, no warning that Odin is near with fish and NO BIRDSONG.

Now ringing is near, NO SOUND OF LADDER.....

Despite  all my moaning, wonderful to see we have three healthy chicks :-)))

  • Welcome back BIRDSONG That was fun to see CLARE

  • Lovely to see you BIRDSONG:-) Thanks for your ID notes.

    Hi all:-)

3 huge GEMS all standing and waiting for a bite to eat. EJ is in her favorite spot, behind the 'gossamer veil' ( well it's more romantic than 'poo streak' lol)

As always thanks for your invaluable updates. Time to read up on today.

  • I think that's Tweety having a flap a few mins ago, with Pong preening and Ping digesting/napping.

  • Birdsong It is lovely to see you back on here posting again welcome home and thank you
