HAPPY NEW WEEK!!!
Last week's Chat Thread is here: http://www.rspb.org.uk/community/placestovisit/lochgartenospreys/f/915/p/111808/867793.aspx#867793
Congratulations to EJ and Odin on the hatching of their egg!!!
A brand new -- never been seen before -- major meteor shower will occur on the evening of 23-24 May. It'll likely produce 100-400 meteors per hour, but there's a possibility that it could turn into a BIG meteor storm of 1,000+ per hour. Not even the scientists are sure. The shower is debris from Comet 209P/LINEAR. Info: http://earthsky.org/space/comet-209p-linear-meteor-shower-storm-may-2014
You can watch live coverage of the new comet event online at the Slooh Observatory site: http://events.slooh.com/
I hope you all have a wonderful week. Peace and comfort to all who are suffering adversity.
Thanks Diane!!! Sorry you're so busy, but I see you still manage to remind us that we have to start a new thread !! ;-). Take care of yourself.....

RSPB Giving Nature a Home
Thanks, Lindy. And hello Lynette! Hope you both are having a good weekend.
Evening all: Busy day with daughter; grandson showed up at her house (oddly enough with three loads of laundry!). I brought the guinea pig home - such a cutie - and daughter will bring the dog en route to the airport Tuesday.
Lindybird: thanks for letting us know about EJ's first egg. How nice that your S-in-Law is helping out the entire village. if i'd known, I'd have told my daughter to drop the dog of at her house. :-) I know exactly what you mean about poor-pouring jugs; I've put off buying one for that reason. You wouldn't think it would be an issue....
Alan: Glad your feathered tenants are eating well
Tina: Well, if we're handing back the babies, that might work. What a wonderful compliment from your grandson: His "bestest friend": indeed - and "more than mummy"! (Of course you don't spoil him at all, right?) Good that you and your partner got out; Im sure it's going to be a difficult week - not to mention the coming months.... Re your outfit, I'd have to say "go comfortable" - I don't think these dress codes are quite as rigid as they used to be. Fingers crossed your Mum's surgeon will have reason to remain optimistic. Say Hi to the Jackdaw and yes, we also are going broke buying bird food. :-)
Diane: Thanks for the info on the meteor shower - I'll try to remember to stay up for it - yawn. Did you see that they've discovered the bones of a giant dinosaur in - where was it? - Argentina or thereabouts? It had a thigh bone some 35' long! I guess that was the good news this week; found the news that Antarctica is apparently melting away quite depressing.... Yes, animals will be here; temps have cooled down considerably. Do hope you can rustle up a good freelance assignment that will keep the wolf from the door - I hated the uncertainty of freelance work the two years I did it and though I hated corporate life too, it was such a relief to get a job where I could depend on a regular paycheck. Take care dearie.
Hugs to all with Special Hugs to Margo, Tina, and NiteOwl and all my spare energy to AQ.
Good Morning ALL. I would have posted earlier but, as usual, LG chick hatching = site playing up !!!
Another beautiful morning. I was very careful in the sunshine on the beach, yesterday, but somehow managed to get one foot sunburnt. Rather painful in bed last night, trying to let the foot hang out of the bed. I haven't been to church as I can't wear shoes this morning. We did have a lovely day with the family though.
As always Diane, thanks for starting our week. I had read about the meteor shower and wondered if you would mention it. I truly hope that you get more freelance assignments that result in very many dollar rewards.
Annette, I presume that the guinea pig is safe from any cat attacks. LOL
Annette: I saw that dinosaur story. Fascinating! That animal weighed more than 14 elephants. The photos of that site are fabulous. What a creature! http://www.bbc.com/news/science-environment-27441156
I also saw that story about the West Antarctica ice sheet collapse. That's a game changer for the human race. The Earth will look very different in 100 years. http://www.nasa.gov/jpl/news/antarctic-ice-sheet-20140512/
Enjoy the guinea pig and doggie. Glad your temperatures are returning to normal. After a few days of very hot weather, we have frost here tonight.
Everyone have a great Sunday! Best to all of you!
THANK YOU, Brenda, for your good wishes! I appreciate it. I hope your sunburn goes away quickly. Put aloe on it. Take care.
Good Morning, All. Got up a little later than usual, as if you see, I was up till after midnight last night, EJ Watching and was lucky enough to hear the little 'un cheeping its first noises to the world (apart from in the egg, of course). Came on just now to catch a nice glimpse of it under EJ's feathers, peeping out: so cute!!
Sorry to hear that you got sunburn yesterday, Brenda. Easily done. Put something on it today and it will have eased by tomorrow, I expect.
Tina: See that you are wondering what to wear to the funeral . Having been to far too many in the last few years, I can safely say that you don't have to wear black, just anything suitably sober. I have a dark navy pencil skirt and a navy top with dark grey squiggles on which does the trick. The main problem is usually if its wet/cold and most of your coats are jolly, bright colours. I suggest to borrow one in a neutral shade if you don't have a raincoat which will do, at this time of year.
Annette: See you are guinea pig sitting already. What colour is it? Some of them are wonderfully multi coloured.
Diane: There has been good coverage here of the new dinosaur finds: what an amazing creature, so huuge!
Forgto to say, the sun is shining brightly here and its a beautiful day. We have been having coffee sitting on the lawn and entertained by the fact that I put out some bits on the bird table which are attracting both the pigeons and the crow we have been seeing. He swoops down soundlessly, and at one point, frightened the poor pigeon to death as she didn't see him coming!!
I've just left my OH soaking up the sun in our garden: he has been doing far too much lately and flopped down yesterday saying he was "all in". The medication he's on can cause tiredness, but being him he has gone on trying to do just the same things as usual without giving himself any little rests between. He trimmed all our hedges again, although they were not particularly shaggy because "they might grow next month in all the rain forecast and I won't be able to keep up".
You may have noticed that Brenda said the other day, that Margo had some baby fish in her pond now: I was then full of imagination of what little Billie would think of that! So the following post will be for dear Margo....
Billies Dreams
My Billie is a'dreamin' -See her bushy tail a'twitching. For when my Billie's fast asleepShe dreams of going fishin'!
She dreams of fishy wishes forThere are little fishy babies.....In amongst the pool's green plantsShe watches them, for ages.
Ears and whiskers all a shakin'From the movements she is makingTo lean right into the watery pool, andScoop out the meal that's waiting....
One day, in dreams, she might justFind that she is really ableTo bring her little fishy wishAll the way to table.
Meanwhile, she lies there stretching.Every day she is a'dreaming -Asleep, but in her coloured feline dreamsA baby fishy dish she's scheming.
