Good morning, all!
I have been wondering for a while whether we're going about the business of recording events at Loch Garten in the wrong way as the interest and number of people posting seems to have taken a serious nosedive this year. I've just looked at yesterday's Daily Update thread - started by the magnificent Scylla at Mission Control in the small hours - the thread got 31 responses from only five people (including Scylla herself) and, given the greater number of both posts and posters only two years ago, I would like to know if there is a sincere lack of interest in this nest or whether it is simply down to a much bigger number of people lurking rather than posting. Incidentally the Daily Update thread from May 9th 2012 got 174 responses even though the only thing going on was incubation with the odd fish delivery.
Any thoughts?
Our herring gulls are red listed birds. Think about that the next time you hear some flaming idiot calling for a cull of them.
I must admit that I do not watch cams very much nowadays. That is because I spend most of my time reporting news and recording and analysing statistics.

Blimey. Do you actually prefer the recording and stats to watching the birds?
I confess I am a regular lurker who posts very rarely. I became interested in ospreys and have watched the nest at Loch Garten for at least 6 years after visiting the centre so this is my first love. I agree with all the comments about why there are less posts etc and will try to have more input. I don't expect others to post but do appreciate all contributions.

Well there is a lot more to osprology than just watching the birds. Trying to work out which egg had been taken by the crow at Loch of the Lowes was a great exercise which took a great many hours to solve.
Totally impossible of course if people had not captured closeups of the eggs in advance.
I can appreciate that, Tiger - but while I've got the birds I'll watch them. We only have them for five months or so.
I have never tried my kindle to see if I can get the LG cam. I just tried just now and I get it perfect. My son did make some adjustments when I fist got the kindle though. Maybe just the ipad that you can't view from.

Just to add to the previous comments, I no longer have the same time to spend watching cams due to other commitments, and I rely quite heavily on Twitter updates on my phone.
Oh I have just had a strange event where I found myself unable to post because I lost my posting box.
I was just going to say that there is a thread on how to get the webcam on iPads here
I keep losing my posting box as well so you're far from the only one.
Limpy has a Samsung pad and can't get the webcam on it.
First of all we would like to thank everyone who has replied on this thread.
Clare and I had been talking about what was happening to the DU and had felt it had gone into decline.
This thread has brought out some valid points that have come out of the remarks made. I do hope the RSPB pick up on some of them.
This thread should not make anyone feel guilty, it was not done for that reason and we're not pointing a finger at anyone.
We also hope that the DU will pick up when the bobbleheads appear
