Since the osprey threads tend to be here...these are the ospreys nesting at one of our local lochs (nice view of the nest from the hide too!).

GRANNY SMITH & KATTAI - Thanks for the reports and wonderful pictures from Forfar.
GRANNY SMITH - Pleased you were able to introduce yourself to this nest - lovely place to watch ospreys. I have an angler friend from Dundee who fishes at Loch Rescobie and he always sees the ospreys fishing there (Think they stock the loch).
Fabulous captures KT, that last one is just superb, thanks for sharing!

Keith, I'd have to agree that it is really lovely and I'll certainly visit a few times next year, My hubby fishes so he can do that whilst I watch for ospreys fishing.
Nice photos, KaiTai. Happy to know that both chicks are doing well.
Wonderful pictures Granny Smith.

Been away and just catching up now.
Grannie Smith - Your photographs are fabulous, I am so pleased that you visited Balgavies, and enjoyed it. It is a wonderful place to visit, just a small hide but very peaceful, and always so much to see. As well as seeing Green BF fish right in front of the hide earlier on this year, I saw my first Osprey fish last year out at Loch of Kinnordy, there are several hides there and we also seen Marsh Harriers there both last year and this year, so if you have not been it is worth keeping it in mind, it is not far from Kirriemuir.

Kat Tai - Thank you for the latest report on the juveniles and for your lovely photographs. I would love to visit again but just cannot fit it in :-) So its great that you are visiting quite regularly and posting about your visits, look forward to your next report. :-)

Roberto - I am glad that reading this thread made you decide to visit Balgavies Loch, I think we all agree how nice a place it is to visit so I am glad you enjoyed it and got some fantastic photos of the juvenile attempting to fish.

MaryGK: I really enjoyed the visit. I'm reviewing tons of pictures taken in approx 20 RSPB and SWT reserves during my holiday and I'm still in the first part of my journey, but had a quick look forward at Balgavies Loch days and I believe some other decent shots do exist, I'll post them. It's not usual to see ospreys so closely without paying high fees and you can get nice pictures even with a consumer-level camera there.
The juvenile was probably just figuring out how to enter and get out of the water without harm - no surface scanning before, no steep dives, no sudden changes in direction, no "go-arounds" after missing the target - but it was a pleasure to see and I guess that's part of ospreys' "body of knowledge" :-)
