  • CHRISTINE - Please accept my heartfelt condolances on the loss of your brother Harold.

I was fortunate to send a notelet card and also a letter in his latter weeks at the care home and hospital and although he was unable to reply direct he did reply via a fiend who used to phone him on a Sunday. I have just come off the phone to that friend and she also would like me to offer her heartfelt sympathies for your loss.

Being an ex serviceman myself Harold (Sunshine)used to enjoy chatting to me about past lives in the services as well as birds and jovial matters. He always lightened up The Gabfest where he met his type of people. I think his greatest joy was making others happy.

May you take comfort in knowing an angel is watching over you.

  • I too was saddened to hear of the death of SUNSHINE.  As I said at the time he was a ray of sunshine, and I remember seeing the photos of him meeting Black Jaguar at the Humber Bridge when BJ was on a cycle ride to raise money for Loch Garten.  He looks such a cheerful and lovely man, although I never met him.  My thoughts are with you and your family.

  • Sunshine was a familiar name on the few occasions I popped in to read the Gabfest posts. Apparently he lived up to his name. My sympathy to his family and all his on-line friends.

  • May I also pass on my condolences to yourself and your family Christine. Although I did not know your brother personally we exchanged quite a few messages in the Loch Garten Group along the way. He was very well liked here. The picture of him meeting Jag at the Humber Bridge will be a lasting memory to many.

  • Sunshine joined the RSPB community on 24 April 2010 and the Loch Garten Group on 18 June 2010. I was mostly aware of him on the main board at first.

Sunshine had a great sense of fun and certainly enlivened the board. I had never came across Lemacs until Sunshine introduced them to me. I know they must exist since Sunshine talked so often about them. Nairtcab I am less sure about. I think he made that up.

He claimed to be stupid but I find that hard to believe in someone who so clearly had enough of a sense of history to claim that his ancestors went to Ireland in 1172 to help the Irish.

Strangely I was doing a Google search for Gary Sprake last night and all the great Leeds players of the 1960s and early 1970s came up. The last one was Bobby Collins. I feel sure that would have brought a smile to Sunshine's face.

I go to Yorkshire twice a year. Sunshine and I talked about the possibility of meeting up in Yorkshire but sadly it never happened.

One of sunshine's finest moments was on 28th April 2012 when he met Black Jaguar on his marathon bike ride. The meeting was recorded on this wonderful video by NiteOwl

As you can see Christine. Harold made quite an impression here but then I guess he did that in a lot of places.

  • Please accept my condolences too.... I never knew him but a lot of us felt we did, in lots of ways, following his enthusiastic postings on this site. I have agreed with all the lovely tributes to Sunshine, written above, and if its not inappropriate, have enjoyed reading them all. He will be sadly missed and never replaced.
  • I only knew Sunshine for a short time, although I knew his name from the main blog in the old days. I looked forward to his posts, and had hoped to get to know him better, sadly that's not to be.  Please accept my sincere condolences Christine, to you and all the family.

  • Dear Christine, I was so sorry to read about the passing of your much loved brother Harold, or Sunshine, as we knew him here.  His wonderful sense of  humour was what attracted me to his blogs, particularly his posts about his camel, lemac, which he regularly rode through cyberspace and which had me in fits of laughter. Sunshine's favourite Osprey was Mallachie and mine also. We both really hoped that Mallachie, although reported missing due to a lost satellite track, was still out there somewhere, and we both hoped that sometime in the future he would be spotted, but sadly, so far, there's been no sighting. Whenever I think of Mallachie, Sunshine will also be in my thoughts. I guessed that maybe Harold was ill when his posts became less frequent. I pray that he now rests in peace. My sincere condolences to you and your family. Sent with love.x

  • I saw his name from time to time on the LG blogs during the few years I have been a member so please accept my condolences.
