Weekly Chat (Non-Osprey Topics), 30 March 2014

HAPPY NEW WEEK!

Welcome to all new and returning folks! Nice to see everyone!

Last week's chat thread is here: http://www.rspb.org.uk/community/placestovisit/lochgartenospreys/f/915/p/110807/847720.aspx#847720. The code for this week's thread is WC300314.

Past data would suggest that Odin will arrive this week. Of course, we know that his rival Blue XD is well on his way back.

Today, Sunday, is the New Moon. Today's moon is special for two reasons:  (1) It's the second New Moon in a month, which some folks call a Black Moon or a Blue Moon, and (2) this moon will produce a lunar eclipse on the night of April 14-15 when it becomes full. The lunar eclipse will be partial in the U.K. and total in the U.S.

I hope everyone has a great spring week!

(Sorry, since I changed computers, I can't make smart/posh links.)

  • Good Morning All. Sunny morning here before rain tomorrow. Rain for the Grand National today and wind and rain for the Boat Race tomorrow.

I see you had a chatty day yesterday when I didn't look in until just before I went to bed last night. I defrosted and cleaned the fridge/ freezer. cleaned on top of all the wall kitchen cupboards ( before the decorator gets up there ! ) and cleaned all the tiles in the ensuite bathroom. Also, we decided we didn't like our new mattress, so we gave it to a newly married couple, who we had never met, together with a bed sofa. They really don't have much furniture, so they were, embarrassingly, so grateful. We collapsed into bed last night. I now want to change the room, where the sofa lived.

Linda, I have visions of you checking if your neighbour is around before you go out. ( reminds me of Mrs Bucket's, (`bouquet) neighbours )

Must go. OH is waiting to go out shopping ! )

  • Morning all: A wonderful sudden downpour yesterday afternoon was very welcome. Lots of wind here, but sunny and very bright today.

Rita: That steroid shot should help a lot. Has anyone given you (simple) exercises to strenghten the front thigh muscles, which would take some of the strain off your knee?  Re pix: I use Windows Live Photo Gallery (came on the laptop) to reduce the size for e-mailing, etc. A day of doing nothing sounds wonderful (for about one day!).

OG: Good luck with the Alder; it'll probably fill out nicely. Wrist is better but will continue to go easy with it for a while.

Diane: Thanks for the raven cam; just checked and they're both at home. Apparently, they don't need the security/comfort of being surrounded by lots of lovely branches.

Lynette: Good luck keeping up the gym routine. Hope daughter gets the extra pay for some work; must be hard during the summer. Does she not have the option of spreading her salary out over 12 months?  Where in the US did your Ancestry search lead you?

Lindybird: I don't stay up to watch the late-night talk shows, but did like Letterman. Good luck with chatty neighbor (had to smile at Margo's image of Hyacinth B) and new folks two doors down.

Margo: Our cat goes outside several times a day (likes to snooze under the Westringia in the summer and leap out at the lizards), but she needs to earn her keep a bit more and despatch a pesky mole that's making little piles in my newly planted dymondia. All she does is sniff about and dig bigger holes!  Grrrr.

Brenda: I'm sure the newlyweds were thrilled with the free furniture! Good luck with the new mattress.  We sold a sofabed a few months back; it was fine to sleep on (with a foam pad), but seldom used as a bed and really ghastly for sitting, and took up so much space.

Diane: Hope you managed a good night's sleep with no worries about the creek.

Think I may be off to daughter's later; will take binocs so I can pull over en route home and try to spot whales along the shore.

    Take care everyone.

  • Rita, I do hope the steroids start giving you some relief asap.

Heather, You must be worried about your grandson, especially when he is acting so out of character. Sometimes we just have to wait until the child is ready to really  talk. It would be wrong of me to offer advice as I don't know him and all children are individuals. I do wish him well.

Annette, It is surprising how much bigger the room appears since the sofa bed was taken.

Diane, I am sorry about the flooding but pleased to read that you are out of danger. Hope you have caught up with your sleep.

Lynette, I hope your gym routine doesn't come to a complete halt when the cricket starts. You have been doing so well.

Margo, I am not surprised that Billie didn't approve when you tried to make her go out for the second time, in the rain. She was probably thinking, " You go if you want. I have been wet once this morning."

  • BRENDA - Thank you. I am very worried but we are doing our best. Grandson has been with eldest SiL today, doing jobs on one of their cars.
