Weekly Chat Thread (Non-Osprey Topics), 9 March 2014

HAPPY NEW WEEK!!!

It's almost spring! I have never been so glad to see spring in all my life!

Last week's chat thread is HERE. The code for this week's thread is WC090314.

Many of you may remember Carl Sagan's popular Cosmos television series. The program is returning, hosted by handsome and charming nerd scientist Neil deGrasse Tyson, and it promises to be astounding! The new show, Cosmos: A Spacetime Odyssey,  will explore the wonders of the universe using cutting edge technology, advanced animation, and new modes of storytelling.

The new Cosmos is expensive and wildly ambitious. It will be broadcast in 170 countries and in 45 languages, the largest global opening for a television series ever.

In the U.K.: The show premieres next Sunday (16 March) at 7:00 p.m. and will be broadcast by U.K. National Geographic Channel

In the U.S.: The show premieres this Sunday (9 March) at 9:00 p.m. and will be simulcast on the National Geographic Channels and the Fox network channels.

In Australia: The show premieres next Sunday (16 March) at 7:30 p.m. on Australia National Geographic Channel

I couldn't find the information for France. Sorry!

You can get more background information in this article. I highly recommend this series.

  • ANNETTE- I'm glad that you didn't have to do too much prepping! It's hard to believe that D is three already, but I should have realised when I saw the pic of her riding the pony!

AQ - A twin pregnancy must be difficult to live with, I've forgotten the due date, sorry. Can't be too far away? My middle daughter's first was 11lbs in weight and she was huge and very uncomfortable, but because he was the first, she could rest a lot of the time.

Very quiet here, hope everyone is OK, missing CLARE's early morning calls lol and hope that BRENDA and DIANE are OK. The osprey threads are hotting up now so maybe it will get quieter here,as usual.

Daughter#3 arrived home at 3am,had a lovely time but said that she could happily have left at midnight, just waiting for a lift! Her littlest woke at 7am and of course went through to Mummy's bed. I was too late, she'd woken her Mum before I reached the room.

    Better go

    Have a good day everyone!

  • Good Morning ALL. I seem to be popular this morning. First phone call was at 8am and have had three more since then. Picked the car up yesterday and then had to do a big food shop. We hadn't eaten out all week, so went to an Italian restaurant last night and prayed that the car would behave itself to return home. LOL

I noticed that the £108 million Euro lottery was won by somebody in the UK. Unclaimed, so check your tickets :-))) i won the grand sum of £2.80

Enjoy the meal with your family, Heather. I bet your daughter was hoping that you would have got to your granddaughter before she disturbed Mummy.

AQ, Between yourself and the other grandparents, LM is being kept occupied. That is going to be hard to continue when the twins are born and your daughter will need even more assistance.

Annette, Hope D's birthday celebrations are a great success and you all enjoy yourselves.

  • More dull weather - and cold breeze.  Been to Lockerbie Farmers' Market - were in time for the haggis pies this month!  Also bought marmalade for OH and chutney for me, and baked goodies including cheese scones.  Pootling about this afternoon, then new beds being delivered tomorrow.

AQ - pleased Thursday passed with only one tantrum.

ANNETTE - enjoy the weekend with the birthday girl.

HEATHER - enjoy the family meal together.

BRENDA - pleased you ended the week with a meal out, and safely there and back!

MARGO - I hope your OH will be able to take you for a scenic drive or something to cheer your day.

EVERYONE - have a good weekend

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!

  • We have spent most of the day gardening, which included pruning all the hydrangeas, which have grown so much already this year. I even found a small flower head on one of them. I am already suffering from an OG "ouch gardening" day so I think I may feel worse tomorrow. Still plenty to do so we will have to ignore the aches. Beautiful day here and the washing even dried outside. Having a quiet relaxing evening.

OG, Seems you had a very successful shopping morning at the Farmers' Market. Hope your new beds arrive on time. Sounds strange to get a delivery on a Sunday.

  • BRENDA - sounds like a productive day for you; sorry about the ouch!  We didn't get into the garden, despite having bought another plant this morning.  We are now entering some distant cousins to the family tree - including the triplets.

  • Evening everyone.
Tiger certainly gets around what was he doing in Felixstowe?

  • So, he had made his way via Poland, I believe, according to the PL plate?

I hope the three of you are well, LIMPY, I haven't seen a post from CLARE today!

  • Hi OG nice to see the flower back on here Clare is fine she is doing some ironing at the moment but I am sure she will post later.

Sorry, OG, it's been a busy day today.

In an attempt to compensate for this here's a link to a must-see thread - the two links on it show amazing news:

    Baby Gorilla

Our herring gulls are red listed birds.  Think about that the next time you hear some flaming idiot calling for a cull of them.

  • Hi all

LIMPY - Tiger will be very bemused since I believe he is at present in a rather more exotic location?

Like BRENDA we enjoyed our Italian meal today, OH and I shared a starter of bruschetta and main course of pizza but he managed to eat a chocolate brownie, chocolate mousse, chocolate chip and white chocolate pudding with added cream. The rest of us were more restrained.

The wind in Elgin was a killer, yesterday. By the time I had walked from the train station to daughter's house I was dead beat. Today, just a little better but we softies from Inverness were all wrapped up while Elgin granddaughters were skipping along with jackets unfastened.

After lunch we went to WH Smith and I bought books for the children. Mia reads at a rate of knots and happily, can take load of books at a time out of the library. However, she forgot to bring her library books with her today, so we had an emergency! She is like me, reads fast and can't bear to be without a book at bedtime.

OG - not gardening weather today here either, even if OH had been at home. Our tulips are only just showing buds but like yours, our crocuses are going over. Camellia has a few buds.
