Will EJ return this week? What if another female tries to claim the nest? Will super-Odin return to fish another year? Or will EJ take another mate (she'd better not!!) Will YOU be the lucky blogger to catch the first glimpse of an osprey at LG? Tune in to the Loch Garten LIVE webcam for the first installment of Loch Garten Ospreys - 2010!!
Seriously, lots of interesting chat on the last page or two of the previous week's chatter. Catch up now because you won't have time once the ospreys are back in town! :-)
Here is another bird I have been stalking. This is the best pic so far, with him perched on our clothes line. The Red Wattlebird (Anthochaera carunculata) is a large noisy honeyeater. Up to 35 cm. It feeds on nectar, some insects, berries & honeydew. Its call is a harsh squawk. Its call can be heard on http://birdsinbackyards.net/species/Anthochaera-carunculata.
Good Night/Morning and it has been BUSY on here today! =O) John and I took a break today to see Alice in Wonderland which was absolutely superb.
Where to start??? I'll start with A me thinks.
Annette: Did you ever ID your brown bird from the other day? I'm not sure how I feel about the new healthcare reform but it seems to have good points and not so good as well.
A.Q. Love those bird photos you posted!
Diane: Welcome to the world of short-haired and sassy lassies! I love, love, love having short hair! Can you tell? You know in the summer of 2008 we had the tornado sirens sound off in the city here for first time I can honestly say in 26 years of living here. I was watching the telly when Tom Skilling from WGN broke in on the program personally, which is never a good thing, with tornado warnings and minutes later my ears popped. As soon as the sirens started we grabbed a few essentials and headed down to the basement though we were nearly blown off the porch and the rain felt like needles. Can you believe only one other person in our building of 8 units came downstairs, for his laundry mind you, and said he thought the sirens were a lightning warning like on a golf course!
Lindybird: A hearty welcome home to you and I'm glad the party and trip were a big success!
OG: I have yet to check out this trucker cam you're all talking about, actually, but I may do that as I'm able to.
Paul: Thank you for the pics of the beautiful Chaffinch. Do they sing prettily like the Gold Finches do?
Tiger: I adore the Crow and Kitten video, thank you so much for that! My thoughts are with you and your poster friend. 2 weeks ago my best friend's mother died very suddenly so we attended a memorial service for her last Friday and the same day I learned an OH of my pen pal of 10 years had died in the Haiti earthquake. I was very grateful that the Alice in Wonderland movie was an engrossing and much needed escape.
Hoping to see E.J. and Odin very, very soon!
Hello to everyone and I send my best wishes to you, one and all!
Hi folks.
AQ: I put out bits of old bread for the crows, and they hop along the wall, picking up multiple pieces in one trip. Hope you don't get overrun with miners! I'm hoping to get a shot of the Orioles when they come back this year, but they're pretty nervous around people.
Caerann: Re that bird, it must've been a dove, but haven't seen one that fat or big. Hmmm. I'm sure I'll figure it out - should've taken a photo, but I don't have a fancy lens. Good grief; that's late warning for a tornado! I love the Trucker Cam - he's on his way to a late-night delivery right now. I keep trying to read the green highway signs, but not much luck.
Watching Nature right now - two spiders on the verge of mating. Oh dear. Looks pretty complicated..... male is waving his legs about; female not too impressed at this point. Apparently, males that can "sing" and dance do better. Hmmm. Well, I have a good mystery book, so think I'll call it a night and let the spiders get on with it! :-)
Annette You are now a member of the "I have seen the ISS Club". It is great that you have seen it. I love seeing it again and again.
Tiger Signature
Caerann Yes that video of the the Crow and the Kitten is rather special. Mind you there have been lots of examples of where animals can form symbiotic relationships.
Yes death visits us all sooner or later.
One of our countdown clocks is now at less than 2 days for EJ's return. See http://people.rit.edu/cwcnvs/share/birds/
Whoa, Tiger, just looked at the clock & did a double take- how exciting it is getting now the hour is ever nearer.
Morning All. Jealous of Annette having seen the ISS so clearly, well done you.
Thanks to AQ for bird pic of the Red Wattlehead- he looks interesting. Thanks also for more info on the Miners.
Going to see "Alice in Wonderland" on Thursday, so am glad you enjoyed it, Caerann.
Hi to Heron77 you have been a bit quiet lately. Trying to be sunny weather here, but not quite managing it. Rain forecast for later, so will go shopping this morning. Have a good day, All.
Sunny Tuesday (yesterday was a typical “sunshine and showers“ day). Thanks for overnight pictures etc – and good to see Caerann here again.
A Greenfinch visited this morning – but went when a Starling came. Hadn’t seen a Greenfinch in our garden for a couple of years – but before that they raised a family hereabouts each year and fed their children at our feeders.
The stars of the show are still the Goldfinches – taken with new camera – so lucky to have neighbour-out-the-back’s white harling for background!
Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!
Have been very busy. Will catch up with everyone later today. Happy Tuesday!

Thanks, Diane. Hi, OG! Nice pics of the goldfinches, we have some visiting now I put nyger seed feeders out, but I never seem to be able to capture them on film. Will keep trying.
Just went back on the postings to find the Cat & the Crow video, as had not had time to watch it: great stuff!
Oh, my stars, OG, that photo is award-winning quality. Just perfect!!! Beautiful birds. You need to frame this one.
Will look at other posts later.
