Weekly Chat, Sunday, March 21, 2010

Will EJ return this week?  What if another female tries to claim the nest?  Will super-Odin return to fish another year? Or will EJ take another mate (she'd better not!!)  Will YOU be the lucky blogger to catch the first glimpse of an osprey at LG?  Tune in to the Loch Garten LIVE webcam for the first installment of Loch Garten Ospreys - 2010!!

Seriously, lots of interesting chat on the last page or two of the previous week's chatter.  Catch up now because you won't have time once the ospreys are back in town!  :-)

  • Thanks for that dibnlib I like happy endings too.

  • Oh dear oh dear oh dear - I have been becoming increasingly frustrated because I couldn't get the live nestcam and in my panication did not notice a message sailing by at the top of the screen saying something like 'windows media wants to update, click here'----- So now son in law gets a respite because he is always having to help out his Mum with computer issues and I really didn't want to add to his workload if I could help it. I feel rather stupid but at least I can see what the rest of you can see!!

  • Just had a sighting less than 10 miles from where I live:

Heading for Rutland Water I think.

    25/03 14:13 CAMBRIDGESHIRE : Osprey, Farcet Fen [S]
    one flew northwest mid-afternoon (13:50)

  • Coo eck !  They're a frosty lot on Looduskalender forum. Won't be posting there much.

Alan Sue and all you knowledgeable posters re Osprey movements I am so grateful to you all

I just got Bierregaard's latest email and for those of you  who don't receive them from B - Have a laugh .......

'''There's much anticipation of Hudson's arrival at the Westport River.
Someone just emailed, eager for news, saying they were waiting with
"baited" breath. Does this entail eating pickled herring and
    breathing near the nest?'

    :)    :)   :)

Keep your eyes peeled Ginnie (I trust you've found your way to the live video site?)

  • Well done HeatherB but don't worry I am one of the worst when I am being told what to do on screen.  Can't see the wood for the trees at times.

  • NJ Osprey Project says ospreys that hatch earlier are more likely to return to breed as adults: http://bit.ly/aHSbEv

  • Morning all:  AQ:  Boo to flat tires, especially after creme brulee. Nice to know I'm associated with something so yummy. Sounds like car problems are contagious, per Lindybird's post.

Lindybird: 'Twas ever so??  I'm missing something - is that a popular expression from a TV sitcom or..? :-))  I bought a tiny bunch of imported Canadian daffodils at Trader Joe's last weekened and - boy - do they ever bring back memories of spring in the UK!  Sigh.  Let us know what movie you're seeing.

Diane: Did you read the latest findings that women should do "moderate" exercise 60 minutes a day to avoid putting on weight during middle age?  Of course, multiple other studies say only 30.  Wonder how many calories we burn watching osprey nests and blogging with friends around the world.....

Ginnie: 3 a.m. to 7 a.m. UK time?, eh?  Another night owl?  Heron77 (aka Paul) is in the UK and is often up in the middle of the night so you might bump into him.

OG: Funny about young people's clothes - they often look all tatty and frayed with holes and I think "I have stuff like that in my closet!"

dibnlib: Happy endings always bring a smile - even if we don't know the people (or eagles) involved.

Heather: Diane mentioned some time back that updating these bits and pieces was important if we want to see things - I tended to ignore them up until then.

Alan: Did you rush out into the garden to check the passing osprey?  :-)

Cirrus: Frosty eh? Maybe just a bad hair day for someone?   "Baited breath" - who can we send up the post at LG to try it out?  :-)

OK. Have to throw on clothes and make an appearance at the rose garden. Back later folks! Take care.

  • Not much osprey nest action today so here is a screen capture of Brightons peregrine:

  • Could someone please help me!! Everytime I close the weekly chat I have to start at page 1 again.  We are on page 16 now.  I can't drag the "latest post" on 'cos it just doesn't work.  Pleeese  help me!!  I am also  not very compuiter literate so explain it VERY simpl y  if you can!!!!!

     Thank  you

    Tish

Everything in life is speaking in spite of its apparent silence.

  • Alan Your peregrine pictures make me jealous!  There were breeding peregrines in an area where I walk the dogs - had been there for 20 years or so (probably several generations).  2 or 3 years ago the female was found dead on a dual carriageway.  Experts thought  she'd collided with a high vehicle.  The male remained  throughout the next season and through that winter, getting more and more bedraggled.  When spring came and no mate appeared, he turned his face to the quarry wall and, after a few days, disappeared, presumed dead.  No other has come to take his place.

Ginnie Welcome to the site - it's addictive and everyone is lovely.

Margobird We've got a swamp with a little grass in our garden, too.  Hope for all our sakes it dries up again soon.

I've just contacted my ISP to upgrade my broadband usage, so I can keep the LG nest cam running in a corner of the screen while I do other things - may need technical advice!
