Weekly Chat, Sunday, March 21, 2010

Will EJ return this week?  What if another female tries to claim the nest?  Will super-Odin return to fish another year? Or will EJ take another mate (she'd better not!!)  Will YOU be the lucky blogger to catch the first glimpse of an osprey at LG?  Tune in to the Loch Garten LIVE webcam for the first installment of Loch Garten Ospreys - 2010!!

Seriously, lots of interesting chat on the last page or two of the previous week's chatter.  Catch up now because you won't have time once the ospreys are back in town!  :-)

  • Good afternoon/morning/evening. Tis 3.47 pm Thurs in Adelaide. My plans for a quiet day (ie checking bird cams, entering yesterday’s library research, checking bird cams, teeny bit of housework, checking bird cams) got changed. Last night we went out to dinner. (Himself’s suggestion - needless to say I did not point out it was 3 weeks since our last monthly dinner LOL). Food not bad, service slow (took ages to offer first drink, also had to ask for water). Anyway returned to car to find a flat tyre - very flat. Himself changed it. (I would have rung the RAA and waited an hour for man in yellow van to come.) So this morning I took tyre with its large nail to the tyre mart. Tried to read while their TV was playing morning drivel. (Gosh do people actually watch that stuff?) Nope, tyre beyond repair, new one installed. Home again, read posts, started yesterday’s ‘work’, friend rang. Then we were cut off and the clever little handpiece told me ‘external line disconnected’. Great. No internet either. Much later here I am deleting most of today’s plans. BTW Annette I had creme brulee last night and I thought of you.

  • Hi, all. The full moon is Monday, 29 March, so the nights will be very bright from now through early next week. Will that extend the flying time of ospreys who are on the way north? Most documented night flying has occurred over the sea, though. Right or not?

Hi, Annette. The smell of jasmine is wonderful. I also like jasmine tea. I hope the ants don't make another assault on your house! I love all of the Earth's creatures, but ants are not my favorite. Have fun at the rose garden.     OG: Get some rest. What a day you had. Would put my brain on overload. :-)     Margobird: Good morning. Hope you're doing well today.     Hi, Ginnie. Welcome! I'm a night owl, so I might be around, depending on when you get up. You'll have fun here.

    Night all!

  • Hi, AQ! Haven't talked to you for awhile. So agree with you about morning drivel on TV!!! I don't know who watches that awful stuff. It has to lower one's IQ. Sounds like you had some obstacles in your day. Hope everything is sorted now. I'm on a diet, and I could not be held responsible for my actions if someone ate creme brulee in front of me. LOL Have a good day. I'm off to bed.

  • Hi Diane. I'm about to think about getting something for tea. Not hungry though! Good night.

  •

Good night to you all and thanks for the welcome.  I will normally be around from 3am until around now (7am) providing that my internet is not playing up.

  • Welcome to Ginnie.  (although you'll not read this until tonight I expect).

MORNING ALL.   Slight diversions this morning, before logging in:  1st, to check the now peaceful looking webcam at LG,  then off to take one of our cars to the Garage, as it has a diesel leak which can't apparently be explained.  However, we have a wonderful Garage Man who is a treasure & always knows what he's doing, which is a comfort.   Drizzle here to greet us on arising, so all the schoolchildren who seem not to wear coats these days, are putting their books on their heads to keep dry -  doesn't do much for the books, I suppose!

The TV people tried to get us all excited about a Mini Budget announcement yesterday, but it was a lot of the usual fudging-  they can only alter things 'around the edges' a bit as really they'd like to clobber us for everything taxwise etc. but can't because of the forthcoming election. 'Twas ever so.

Off to do light shopping mission soon, then off the cinema later:  how can I go out when EJ may return any minute???  Must have lost my reason.  Have a Good Day, All.

  • ps.  Seen the bit about the smell of jasmine:   Bought myself a small bunch of daffs the other day, now they are all open in the vase, the smell is just heavenly - Spring!!

  • Margobird: This sighting is not too far from you:

    25/03 08:38  DORSET : Osprey, Lodmoor RSPB  [S]
one fishing in Weymouth Bay flew north over Lodmoor; also Spoonbill, Green Sandpiper and Willow Warbler this morning

  • Good morning, all.  Change of routine for me too – had to check cams first – just I case ….  I see dear Marge at LotL has made it onto the BBC Scotland web headlines again.  Good morning (Thursday) Ginnie, and welcome – but you will not read this till Friday morning!  You won’t find me here “live” during your chatting hours – I am in the UK (SW Scotland) but I definitely don’t do early!  I reply to overnight posters, and they find my comments later.  Annette – pleased you had good times with your lunch and evening walk friends – we’re looking forward to evening walks here too as the days get longer (for walk read stagger, for me, but better than nothing).   AQ – sounds like you need to forget Thursday ever happened – hope Friday will be a better day for you.  Lindybird – hope your diesel leak is sorted – can’t afford to waste the stuff at current price!  What is it with young people – they spend a fortune on clothes, but never seem to wear very much.  Will the finance bill even get through parliament before the general election?!  I hope you enjoy the film.

Back to cams now, quite a full day, but should be able to pop in from time to time.

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!

  • Welcome Ginnie to the group. You will find it very friendly here and we always welcome new members.
