Weekly Chat, Sunday, March 21, 2010

Will EJ return this week?  What if another female tries to claim the nest?  Will super-Odin return to fish another year? Or will EJ take another mate (she'd better not!!)  Will YOU be the lucky blogger to catch the first glimpse of an osprey at LG?  Tune in to the Loch Garten LIVE webcam for the first installment of Loch Garten Ospreys - 2010!!

Seriously, lots of interesting chat on the last page or two of the previous week's chatter.  Catch up now because you won't have time once the ospreys are back in town!  :-)

  • Here is some footage, only brief but it looks like post mating mantling stance to me :)

  • A bit of courting, certainly.  Thanks Chloe.

  • I keep replaying that clip and not sure what I am seeing. Could also be an intruder, hence mantling of course.

  • Didn't feel it looked aggressive.

  • Rain in night – dull this morning, but so good to see arrivals at LotL and know that LG won’t be far behind!  Have read overnight posts – thanks all.  Tiger – great pics on PaleMale site as usual.  Caerann – so pleased you can take outdoor time during your job-hunt, and have seen the Kestrels.  Annette – I thought Truckers day off in Montgomery looked like a campsite and that cabins were for campers!  Did you read how many photos he took there?  Phenomenal.  Pleased the Whale sightings are up, even if not when you are counting; I guess it is becoming more important to get good records when there are more babies among them.  Diane – we have similar laws here about Trucker hours.  Don’t like your spooky message from cyber scrabble – I wouldn’t dare go to bed after that!  Heron – pleased to hear you are not showing full characteristics of an Owl, much as I like owls!  Chaffinch was eating Nyjer seed this morning!  I thought our winter Goldies were coming your way when they left here!  Patriciat – hope you and dogs will not get entirely drenched – it seems to be brightening a bit here, but I think the weather systems are moving west to east this week, so this must be weather you have already had.  Lindybird – hope your plans for OH birthday are going well.  ChloeB – Marge looked quite calm, really hope it is Eric with her – they did well last year.

Now must start the day – blood tests this afternoon.

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!

  • Another message from Katie:

<< OK, that's a bit strange because when I view the groups page, Loch Garten is at the top. Our web designer's going to have a look at it as soon as possible, but we have a very busy few days coming up. >>

I've had another look, and I can't see it at the top!  One day last week it moved from second top to the bottom, and now it is missing!

  • Hi all!

Isn`t it just wonderful `bout Marge. And I trust we will have osps in LG nest soon too. Beautiful sunny day here and there`s been first osprey sighting yesterday in EW Finland. So spring is on it`s way here too :)

  • HeatherB: Is your computer still not showing the LG nest live webcam? I lost it yesterday and had the blank box with the small cross that you described, but, I got it back. Can you provide some details? You have Vista, but which browser are you using (IE, Firefox etc.) and which version? Also which version of Windows Media Player is installed on your machine? Any error message given when you access the website? If so please state.

I know why I lost my LG webcam, because I was networking two computers together and the settings on the desktop got transferred to the laptop, which is running a different configuration of software.

For anyone trying to run the website on Windows 7 with the latest Firefox 3.6.2, it just cannot work, since the WMP plug-in has not yet been made available, so although I have WMP version 12, it only works with IE version 8, which I have on the laptop, which is new. I have the nest on screen at present and there is nothing to report. 11.00AM.

The versions of software are given on the 'Help' button, under 'About xxxxx' usually.

I am not making any promises, but either I or one of the other members may be able to help.

  • Hi auntie:  We're all excited about the sightings, glad that Spring is coming your way, too!
