Continued from Osprey Chat Thread January 2014
A year ago at this time the atmosphere was electric. Caledonia had been sighted in Spain and a group of ospreyphiles were going out to visit her. It was all so exciting. Looking forward there was the prospect of Caledonia coming home in 2014. The trip to Spain was a grand success but sadly Caledonia will not be coming home as hoped. However that other young osprey Blue YD has has been living away quietly close to the Senegal river and in about 100 days from now he should be thinking of heading north. I always remember that day in 2011 when Rothiemurchus headed north. It was a fantastic day, never to be forgotten.
No doubt both EJ and Odin must be thinking of heading north soon too. It will be their sixth year together.
One cannot help thinking of Blue XD and Green J too. Will Blue XD feature at Loch Garten in 2014? If history is anything to go by then I would say YES. Since he is allegedly being tracked we might even see him on his way.Of course the other great question is "Will Lady return?". Well I am certainly not ruling it out.
Down at Dyfi the return of Monty and Glesni will be eagerly awaited.
All eyes will also be on Blagdon lake to see if there is any repeat of the antics of White YA in 2013.
Last year the venerable 3 (97) returned to Rutland around 16 March. By that reckoning we only have about 43 days until an osprey returns.
So just over six weeks and the long wait is over. It has not seemed such a long wait this time. Best get all those household chores done in the meantime.

Worry? No not at all.

I told you it would. :)
Yeah yeah :))
Thanks, Alan.
Our herring gulls are red listed birds. Think about that the next time you hear some flaming idiot calling for a cull of them.
