Simply amazing. Scientists in Tasmania are tracking bees with tiny sensors. The next stage is to shrink the sensor to track fruit fly & mosquitoes.
Temp may be cooler but the high humidity makes it feel just as unpleasant. The bushfires have destroyed at least 15 homes, 425,000 hectares, not to mention stock, crops & fencing. Concern that the first stage of the Tour DownUnder may have to be cancelled as the route is through one of the bushfire areas. Many of the fires, some still not under control, are in areas I have visited or plan to visit on photo excursions. News is much worse when one can picture the scene rather than just another anonymous place in the news. I haven't been out in the car since last Mon and driving to church this morn I felt quite strange.
Diane showed us the weather in New York but I have just been looking at the weather for Indiana. It looks pretty bad for you too Diane. Take care.
Brenda: No worries. Six inches of snow and the temperature is -17.7 C (0 F). I may have to do some shoveling, so I can go for groceries...eventually. LOL Thanks for asking!
The big buck deer was in my backyard last night. I saw his tracks this morning.
Oh, and I have a forked pine tree limb that snapped off in the heavy snow. It's caught on a thick vine and dangling over my driveway lane. I'm meditating on how to get it down. I may have to break a couple of laws of physics. LOLOL
Evening all: Will try to catch up; seems to be have become a very busy week.
Lindybird: Thanks for the smiles - liked the cartoon.
Margo: Great to insist your OH take a break, but isn't there some special insurance you could take out just for the duration of any trip abroad? Please keep doing that rain dance! :-)
Trish2: I have a hard time keeping up with Sherlock, probably because I always have something else do to (eg. catching up with LG blog) and miss critical scenes/remarks!
Alan: Congrats on your tele debut! My sister would definitely agree with you.
Rita: Home made marmalade sounds wonderful; I should try that with my Valencias.
AQ: Wow! Two more Little Somethings on the way? How exciting - and how busy you're going to be! :-) When are the twins due (in cooler weather I hope).
Diane: Soooo tired of that high pressure area over the Pacific - as I'm sure you're very tired of that pesky Polar Vortex that's bringing more ghastly weather your way. Oh boo to Indiana - come to California, get a suntan and a driver's licence that you can smile for! :-) Do watch out for that pine limb.
Auntie: How perverse we all are - no sun here today and I was so relieved; it's been so harsh and bright what with all this unseasonably low humidity! :-)
Brenda: We're still in the "will we/won't we" stage of patio extension; I'm now wondering how it might affect the irrigation hoses and drip system that snakes around the backyard.
Off to see daughter tomorrow and pick up the clothes I left at her house when I was up there the other week and got distracted by the landlady as I was packing my car to leave. They include my favorite comfy pants and flannel shirt and I really want to get them before one of her critters decides to take a nap on them.
Thanks everyone for all your news, photos, and lovely links. Take care - stay warm/dry/cool and be safe too!
Annette: That ornery duck has probably pooped on your flannel shirt by now out of pure spite. LOLOL! I wouldn't need much convincing to come to California. I'm starting to get cabin fever. Besides, I want to see the whales! I don't know about the suntan, though. My skin is so pale, if you put me in the sun, I'd look like a deep-fried vampire.

Good morning, all! It's chucking it down with rain here - joy.......
Our herring gulls are red listed birds. Think about that the next time you hear some flaming idiot calling for a cull of them.
There are twins in my family - I'm very relieved I only had one child, though!!
That's scary - I think she was quite brave to consider having three children under five!!
I can still remember when the Walton sextuplets hit the headlines - it's hard to believe they're 30 now.
