Simply amazing. Scientists in Tasmania are tracking bees with tiny sensors. The next stage is to shrink the sensor to track fruit fly & mosquitoes.
Temp may be cooler but the high humidity makes it feel just as unpleasant. The bushfires have destroyed at least 15 homes, 425,000 hectares, not to mention stock, crops & fencing. Concern that the first stage of the Tour DownUnder may have to be cancelled as the route is through one of the bushfire areas. Many of the fires, some still not under control, are in areas I have visited or plan to visit on photo excursions. News is much worse when one can picture the scene rather than just another anonymous place in the news. I haven't been out in the car since last Mon and driving to church this morn I felt quite strange.
I wouldn't want to go climbing trees no matter what the weather was doing!
Our herring gulls are red listed birds. Think about that the next time you hear some flaming idiot calling for a cull of them.
Morning ALL
Diane - Waiting on the NY Cam to come on to see what it looks like now. Stay safe in all this snow, hope you sort the tree out but get someone else to do it :-)
Brenda/Limpy - Thank You for the verification of the little animal, and for the link to the difference between a stoat and a weasel. Never heard the joke before!
Dry here so far, covering of thick cloud too. Not seen any birdies to our feeder today, which is unusual hope they do not desert us as going to be doing the big Garden Bird Count this weekend.

Good morning all and thanks for all posts. Must check that NY cam (note to oneself). Beautiful winter day here again, temp now -16C and sun is shining. Here are few pics (taken thru dirty window hence blurry) for those who long for cooler temps (AQ and maybe Annette) or snow (probably no one LOL)
Have a nice day all!

Good Morning Everyone. Still raining here and so dark. We have all the lights still on.
Diane, Six more inches of snow and -17.7c sounds bad to me. Pleased to hear you are ok though, except for that tree limb and needing groceries. They were saying on your forecast that the wind is causing snow drifts. I do worry at the things you try to do yourself.
Been watching the Abernethy Live Feeder Cam for the last 20 mins or so.
At first there were loads of coal tits, then this little fellow came along, he must be king pin at the Feeder, as one little tit sat a while waiting to get to the nuts then then flew off, then the woodpecker arrived and he didn't venture near either, he flew off.
He has been there all this time and the birds haven't had a look in. Comical watching their behaviour.
Along comes a coal tit but flies away
the sun breaks out
Auntie, Lovely photographs. You are quite right, none of us are hoping for snow. LOL
Mary, Our garden birds seem to be increasing, even the goldfinches returned yesterday, but, yes, they will all probably vanish for the Garden Bird Count.
Brenda - It will be sods law if they disappear at the weekend, we have had such a good variety of birds so far this winter, goldfinch, Siskin, the usual tits, chaffinches, robins, starlings, blackbirds, dunnocks, sparrows, pigeons, even a Sparrowhawk a couple of times, maybe he has chased them away.
The red squirrel has gone and the Jay and Woodpecker have taken over.
Thanks Mary. Good to see the birds can now get at the food !
We very rarely see starlings in our garden.
