Simply amazing. Scientists in Tasmania are tracking bees with tiny sensors. The next stage is to shrink the sensor to track fruit fly & mosquitoes.
Temp may be cooler but the high humidity makes it feel just as unpleasant. The bushfires have destroyed at least 15 homes, 425,000 hectares, not to mention stock, crops & fencing. Concern that the first stage of the Tour DownUnder may have to be cancelled as the route is through one of the bushfire areas. Many of the fires, some still not under control, are in areas I have visited or plan to visit on photo excursions. News is much worse when one can picture the scene rather than just another anonymous place in the news. I haven't been out in the car since last Mon and driving to church this morn I felt quite strange.
BRENDA - so pleased they are cheerful company!
LINDA - LOL to both! That dog's expression is amazing, although I did wonder if the picture was photo-shopped.
Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!
Good morning all and the sun has got his hat on again today. Lovely day yesterday, Billie ventured out several times and she has been out a couple of tines this morning. Definitely a sunshine girl. OH very organised with housework etc and was able to watch football and relax in the afternoon/evening. He was going to work Saturday afternoon but I managed to talk him out of it. He does an extra hour each day by going in early and now he has taken on so many other jobs I feel he does need to take a break. We had a invoice evening catching up with some of the programmes we have recorded. Really enjoyed a prgramme called "Unpacked Italy". Very interesting as visits to different parts that are not on the normal tourist map and also cooking. Made me feel quite sad as I cannot see that I would be able to go to Italy or anywhere abroad for that matter because of the insurance issue. So glad we have many happy memories of our a Italian holidays.
Annete sorry to read about your stomach problems and can see you,did not post overnight so hoping it has not got worse. Your comment about an old woman that stands in front of you when you have a photo taken really made me giggle. Have started doing a rain dance for you but stipulating that it is a reasonable amount and not like it has been here.
George g nice to see you. Such a shame that your medication needs changing again. Hopefully they will able to sort it out once and for all.
Very sad that the little boy was found near you. What a terrible shock for all who live close to the scene.
I think most of us have some very muddy condition due to the extremely wet weather. Here in Dorset most fields resemble lakes and wii do foe some time. Think you will have to get Diesel some wellingtons to save your floors getting muddy.
Heather you are having some problems with internet payments. Hope it is sorted out satisfactorily. Your brother must be so disappointed.
Brenda you are spot on, OH very happy yesterday afternoon. As I said above Billie enjoyed the sun but carefully avoids walking on our lawns which are like swamps. She has been out a couple of times already today and is sitting next to me now waiting to go out again. Hope you enjoy the bowls this afternoon and it provides the distraction you need.
Lindybird thanks for the Monday Smiles. Love the expression on the dog's face. Hopefully your OH will find a but more green to play golf today.
OG having now had a couple of decent days I can actually see it stays light longer, long may it continue.
diane hope you are OK.
AQ I see their is still not a lot of respite due to humidity. Sad to read that places you have visited/want to visit have been in the line of fire.
Billie now getting very impatient to get out so better do as she is being very verbal. Have a good day all and take care.
#badgermonday now trending on twitter
Good afternoon all Winterwatch starts at 8:30 tonight and then reverts back to 8:00 tomorrow. Brenda the bowls start on the tele this afternoon and as I used to play like to watch and think that they sometimes have wayward shots as well as the amatures.
The sun put in an apperance this morning but I think it is now away to have its lunch. If it just keeps fair while we are out walking this afternoon that will do.
At the moment we have an oil rig sitting inthe Forth just off Kirkcaldy and from a distance they don't seem that big but when you look through binocs you then you realise how big they are.
Hope those in the USA and Australia are OK and everyone here keeps well.

Good afternoon. OH wanted to do some gardening, but I said he would do more harm than good plodding about on the wet ground, so convinced him to finish washing plant pots in the garage! I shall check February birthday cards after this – have a habit of starting them and forgetting that I didn’t finish, so they aren’t ready when it is time to post!
Margo – pleased to see you and Billie are enjoying sunshine: it is just visible here, but not full-on blue sky.
George – we shall probably watch WinterWatch live tonight as J will be out, but shall then record the remaining three days. I always like to see the oilrigs in the Cromarty Firth, moored off Invergordon; I suppose I see them as part of ur lifetime heritage to future generations (I am told I have a strange way of looking at things!).
And now, back to the birthday cards!
Margo - glad that Billie has ventured out and that you are getting some sunshine to enjoy. It is sunny here too, temp 7 Deg. however we were out this morning over Glasgow way and drove through a heavy shower of rain
Hope it continues this way and we do not get any snow or rain for the rest of the winter, I feel like spring is around the corner, as the daffodils are popping up and we even have Primula blooming in the garden. It is only 66 days until EJ returns so roll on Spring!
Talking about Italy I loved the programme that the Count Francesco da Mosto toured around the country, lots of interesting places and the history was great.
