Weekly Chat (Non-Osprey Topics), 12 January 2014

HAPPY NEW WEEK and HAPPY FULL MOON!

Last week's Weekly Chat thread is HERE. The code for this week's thread is WC120114.

The Full Moon is Wednesday night in the U.S. and Thursday morning in the U.K.

I hope everyone has a wonderful week, and I hope you all see and feel some bright sunshine! Take heart, spring is only a couple of months away!

Here's a sunny photo, especially for Auntie, Margo, and anyone craving sun

  • 3.15 pm Sun. Temp 30 C. Quick visit, no time to read posts. Slaves are busy prep-ing walls. I finished last of wallpaper this morn, made egg & bacon pie & choc cake for lunch, G-pa & I distracted LittleMiss (she's now napping). Great day out yesterday, have scenic pics for you when I've time to process. I'm very tired & backache. Off to check out lounge if Dau2 hasn't beaten me to it.

  • Evening all: Love the pix of raptors vs ducks!  Needless to say, I was rooting for the raptors.   Here's the naughty duck who's been chasing me around for the last week:

Margobird: Thanks for passing on the news about Phoebe; what a shame. Do hope you guys get a break from the bad weather - the ground must be so waterlogged.

NiteOwl:   Aaack. What a pain having to cope with those docs appointments. We're all here to cheer you on so feel free to call on our support and encouragement.   Re the possum, I'm not sure what options there were, but since they do climb a lot must assume the loss of a limb would slow it down and make in more vulnerable if it were released. Must say I didn't eat Mrs. Duck's eggs either - prefer anonymously donated ones! :-)

Heather: Had to smile at your multiple roles. Re looking after animals, have never scooped so much poop as I have in the last five days!

Rita:  Have been sitting in a semi-stupor ever since I waved her off on her way home. Planning to to Not Much tomorrow. What kind of club are you doing the Agenda for?

Clare: Geez - you heard my sigh of relief over there? Super shots from Minsmere, especially that gorgeous pheasant.

Lindybird: You are SO right about Lightning (although she sniffed my well traveled slippers and went to sit by OH this evening - she was probably very confused by the plethora of "foreign" smells).

OG: Did indeed pick up daughter from the airport and ended up getting there, just as the plane arrived, after a rushed and somewhat chaotic last half hour (more on that later) at her place. She left her car at our house and took off after a cup of coffee and cookies. She was on a real high; she and granddaughter had a wonderful visit. :-)

dibnlib: Good to see you but sorry you've been under the weather - along with poor Benson. Please do let us know how he is. So good to hear your eye op went so well . Cute squirrel - ducks should be so polite!!

Brenda: How nice to be on the winning side of a tax problem. What a sad reason for your late arrival home.

Alan: Bowie shows no sign of outgrowing his cuteness.

Diane: Did try charming the duck but apparently I don't have what it takes to be a duck-whisperer. And thank you AGAIN for starting us off.

AQ: When will you get a chance to slow down and take it easy?

Really looking forward to falling into my own bed tonight!    Take care everyone.

  • Good morning, all!  Hope it's sunny for at least some of you.

Annette - well, luv-a-duck!  That bird looks a right character - what a great photo of him!

Aquilareen - I'm looking forward to your photos.

Diane - many thanks for starting the new thread, and your sunny picture is lovely!

Our herring gulls are red listed birds.  Think about that the next time you hear some flaming idiot calling for a cull of them.

  • Good Morning, and Thank You to Diane for starting us off again, and so cheerfully! Lovely PIC, Diane! Woke to an amazingly blue and pink sky this morning but didn't take photos, just gazed at it in awe. Much more dramatic than could be invented, nature is truly wonderful.
  • Glad that Annette is now comfy & safe in her own bed, after braving all the ducks and poop!!!! I'll send a wooden medal to you for hard work under fire, Annette! Love the pic!
  • Clare - Did enjoy your great pics from the latest Minsmere outing. No wonder you enjoy going there, there is so much to see.
  • AQ - Good that you had a successful outing. You sound as busy as us, hope the decorating is going OK.
  • Good Morning all

That is a nice bright and sunny photo Diane - a lovely start to the week.

Annette - that duck had a menacing look in its eye.   Glad you are home for a rest now :-)

Was -2 last night here and like you Lindybird woke up to a pink sky.

Apart from all the more common type birds at our feeders, this last week we have some Siskins, and a visit from a female Redpoll, had I not seen those Redpolls when up at LG last year, I probably would have missed identifying this lovely little bird.

I'm pleased you liked them.  Minsmere is a fantastic reserve to live near - which reserves are close to you?

  • RITA   Don't throw those lampshades out if your local rehoming centre will take them. As they make sure all their dogs are castrated before being rehomed I would think they would be pleased to have them. I handed one of Dillons leads in yesterday. OH refused to use it as he thought it totally inappropriate for  male Goldie. I still have 2 collars and his regular lead which I just can't bear to give away quite yet. Daft, I know.

I was glad I ventured out to Js leaving do last night. Good company and a very nice pizza, though far to big, so I gave most of it away.

CLARE  loved your pics as ever.
