Italy, Siracusa:
Wednesday, January 1st, 2014 Saline di Siracusa (zona umida IWC) / Siracusa (SR) 1 Osprey (Pandion haliaetus)
[Renzo Ientile]
Today's D Telegraph, page 10 (print copy), an osprey being chased by a mallard duck, who was defending her chicks. No link to the DT, but here is the photographer's site, with images subject to copyright. I am assuming that the photos are recent.
Well, it is Red 8T at Rothiemurchus Fishery, partial red ring and a glimpse of the aerial, confirms Red 8T for me.

05/07 10:50 Fife: Osprey, near Cupar. Sitting on a branch for over half an hour then flew up in the air when a heron approached. After chasing the heron he appeared to be in fishing mode, circling above the river. Made a few unsuccessful attempts before flying off.
Wonderful Granny Smith! Do you think this is the same Osprey you keep seeing then????

Hi Mary
Yes I think it is so don't know if I should keep posting it here if I am fortunate to see him again. No rings at all to help identify him. I go out for a walk every morning and have never seen an osprey in this area (and I am always looking). Took ages to find him today. I love visiting all the osprey centres but this was special, finding one on the doorstep.
Hi Granny Smith.
Personally, I'd be delighted to hear any news of the osprey that's turned up near you. I've read so often that there are few ospreys with no rings these days in Scotland, though there seem to have been one or two at Loch Garten. I know that one visits a pool on the river Deveron not far from the estuary, again no rings. Delighted for you. Please keep posting.
