Birdies LG DU update.
Here is a compilation of the events of the day. The attempted landins of 33(10) are missing - I saw them live but then found they had failed to download :-( This stream has dropped out a lot today.
Blue28's right wing - I wonder if it might repair in time, but it looks as though it has healed deformed.
IMAGICAT
Bless her She is sitting on the eggs again Will there come a time when she will realise these eggs are not viable?
Good morning Patily. I regret to say it could be some time. I can't recall which site,I'm sure Tiger or someone will, where the birds sat for about twice as long as normal on what were duff eggs.
Tina. Hope your Mum is better soon.
Morning MIKE not much more to say about the situation that hasn't already been said.
How is your mum, Tina?
PATILY Loch of the Lowes 2011
The third and last egg was laid April 19th and the female continued to incubte until 1st July although the last few days of June she was on/off the nest. At another nest the female was also seen to incubate for a month after normal hatch time.
Then clearly she gave up and was barely seen to incubate but brought in material to cover up the eggs - This is when LOTL intervened and climbed the tree and removed all the eggs.
Thank you Keith.
As I recall they were very quickly examined to establish the cause of failure in view of Lady's advancing years etc.
Good morning, I had one eye open when I dared to looked in on Maya, no surprise to see her incubating :( I wonder if she finished off yesterdays fish? hope so.
Thank you Mike and Patily, my sister has just messaged, pretty much the same, so I need to go to stoke this morning.
MIKE - Yes they were collected 7 July after Lady started to cover up the eggs.
By 10 days LOTL had initial results back from the labs that the eggs were all fertile and had started to form.
The male that year Green 7Y started a substantial frustration nest build further along the loch but after we last saw him in early August we never saw him again.
Now whether he did not survive the winter or went elsewhere in 2012 in frustration to the previous year I do not know but imagine he never returned to our shores.
