Well the beginning of September usually marks the end of the osprey season. This year we still have two chicks at Dyfi who may well be here for another month. What two magnificent chicks they are.
Cerist provided drama just after fledging by going missing for 53 hours. I had the good fortune to be right there in the Dyfi Visitor Centre when she returned.
Also there is the vexed question of Monty's second nest and what will happen to it over the winter? My view is that given the chance he would use it in the spring.
The Loch Garten season came to a quiet end with the whole family leaving over the space of a few days and Oighrig and Breagh are now in Spain and France respectively.
We also had news of a chick from a four chick nest in Sutherland dropping in at Dyfi. Apparently there have been two four chick nests this year. So it has been a good year for ospreys which is not the same for other raptors as they have had a poor season.
We also had news of the translocation of 12 Scottish ospreys to northern Spain.
Anyway it is now down to the long wait until our feathered friends return in 2014.

Red8T still make a nuisance of himself I see Tiger.
If Morven's tracker is no longer operable - is it too much to expect someone to actually remove it !
Bob's Retired Now visited Shapwick Heath and got a couple of (foggy) pictures of the osprey there - here's a link:

Our herring gulls are red listed birds. Think about that the next time you hear some flaming idiot calling for a cull of them.
Bob has posted some more, in sunlight - these are awesome!!

Oh wow CLARE What an amazing sequence of pictures Lucky man!
He takes some amazing pictures so for him to see an osprey was fantastic - not just for him but for all of us. It's lovely having people like Bob on the Community.
BlueKT....a young Scottish osprey? visited on the last day of the LDOP season. They do not say how they found out it was Scottish, probably from an undisclosed location.

Yes, it is CLARE. I am shattered to think I did not know about this Osprey - I went to Blagdon but failed to see the Osprey there in the spring and Shapwick Heath is just down the road from me !!!
JSB - The reason they put a KT with a ?. When they first posted this news on their FB they noted that it posibly could be KY. Because of the uncertainty of ID it is possible they never traced full location but will have said Scottish due to Blue Ring Left Leg). A couple of Blue K* have been sighted in 2012 (Including KY by the Rutland Team in Gambia) and from ringing would say this bird is about 3-4 years - Guess 2009.
Both Blue KT and KY were ringed by David Anderson in the Aberfoyle Area.
Keith: Thanks for the explanation. You will find this link that I put on the summary migration thread to a still security camera image of the Bassenthwaite nest....presently the nest is empty, since yesterday. Refresh needs a click at 5 mins intervals.
EDIT: Just tested the link and hey presto there is one on the nest.
EDIT #2: Yes there are two juveniles now.
