Weekly Chat (Non-Osprey), Sunday 1 September 2013

HAPPY NEW WEEK AND NEW MONTH!

Last week's Weekly Chat thread is HERE. The code for this week's Weekly Chat thread is 010913 (in case you ever want to find it from the search box).

  • Hope you find exactly what you want, Lindy! I love those quartzite worktops, but too pricey for me to afford.

  • Morning all:

Clare: Thanks for sharing Keith's link - did he mention where that was filmed? Looks like a nice day at the marshes. Love the shots of the budgies; do any of them 'talk'?

Lindybird: Just a word from the wise, we have a darkish multicolored granite counter top and it's very hard to see splotches and spills. I suspect the whadyacallit look-alikes (not that much difference in price here) might present the same challenge, depending on the color. We used to have a cream Formica one; not glamorous, but you could see a splotch at 30 paces and didn't have to worry about what might be incubating while your back was turned!  When we were shopping for a stainless steel sink, we were advised to buy a good brand, and not cut corners there. I was surprised to find SS not as hard to keep clean as I'd feared, but it does show water spots and splashes, which you can't see on dear old porcelain.  My sister has wooden ones, which do look lovely.  Of course, once you've decided on that, you have to buy  new faucets (taps) and that's another decision...

Heather: Interesting to hear that tablets are frustrating in one respect - that would drive me up the wall.  Geez, NZ is a long way away.....  Will that $200 plate be 'safe' at the care home?  Sounds like her nephew is a rare visitor...

Diane: Watch out for those wasps - and the high temps, but enjoy the critters.

Alicat: Good to see you; do let us know how you're doing when you get a chance.

dibnlib: Do you have to pop into the dog home to check out new arrivals or will they call you when a suitable candidate arrives?

Am also wondering what's up with OG; maybe she couldn't keep up with the heavy intellectual bent of our chatter?  Seriously, hope all is well with her.  I'm also going to pile on the hugs headed for Margo.

    Take care all.

  • I was going to spend some time both on here and also on the pc for other chores (all those emails.....!!)  but was interrupted by our elderly neighbour popping round for a chat and to invite us for a cup of tea tomorrow.  He used to live in a village and perhaps misses the friendliness of his former neighbours.  We are always friendly and sometimes do little chores for him (move the bins, cut the top of the hedge etc.) but its not the same as where he used to live, I suspect.  We are all relieved that a neighbour who lives further up the road has finally had their work on the driveway and front garden finished, as there have been many many vehicles parked outside for a couple of weeks now, blocking up the road. Goodness knows why it all took so long as its not a huge garden, but its certainly an improvement on the jungle they had before.

Annette:  Thanks for the advice.  My Friend has granite in a nice honey and cream colour, but she says its an advantage that it doesn't show the dirt except when you put your elbow into the puddle of jam you left and didn't notice!!  ;-))   We know what kind of sink we want but am making sure that we have seen plenty before making a decision.  The taps are not a problem as my OH fitted me a new set of those only a while ago, so we will reuse them.

Dreadful stories today from those involved in the huge multi car pile up in Kent lately, as they say that folks were driving past them too fast in the fog, and just merrily drove onwards into the unknown without any fog lights or slowing down!!  There can be no legislation for stupidity.... ..  We have a very sharp bend only a couple of miles from here, and people come to grief only too often on this, and at a nearby junction.  Every time this happens, there are calls for the speed limit to be lowered yet again, but as someone has written in our newspaper, it just takes some common sense, and proper sensible driving to negotiate it, its not as if there are no bends in the roads elsewhere - they seem to drive as if everywhere is a motorway. End of Rant!!

  • And so many of them drive with their b****y mobile phones glued to their ears as well.

Our herring gulls are red listed birds.  Think about that the next time you hear some flaming idiot calling for a cull of them.

  • A b s o l u t e l y,  Clare!!!!

  • This Site is playing up again today...   not only is it missing the ends off posts, but its beginning to be difficult to get things to post....

Just been laughing at the BBC News report on the new "Diana" film, which has just been released.  Some of the critics have described it as "atrocious and intrusive" with a "squirmingly embarrassing script"  -   I'm not surprised!!!

  • I wasn't planning to see it to be honest - that particular part of her life has such an unhappy ending.  The media, however much she courted them, have an awful lot to answer for.  Full marks to the Pakistani doctor for not selling his story.

  • Am "okay-ish"!  Thanks for kind thoughts.  Explanations another day.  Take care, all.

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!

  • OG Thank you for posting x Hope you didn't feel too pressured but as you know, you are a founder member and VIP on Weekly Chat :-))
  • Glad to see a post from OG - will take it that you are just busy and not able to post.  Hope that eye is clearing up.

Heather is so right about your being a founder member and VIP!!    I was amazed to see that it's been posted on here recently, that the Weekly Chat has been going now for four years - WOW!
