Thanks Tiger, very interesting how Green J has been migrating to the same place all these years and never seems to have had an urge to head for Africa.

One of the reasons I thought there were chances for Blue 44 was because he was not too far from Green J
I am still hoping Blue 44 was a transmitter malfunction. His did start to malfunction a few days prior and we never got the dreaded static signal from him..who knows maybe this year he may be spotted
In Spain the locals know Green J as Gabriella. Perhaps we should start calling her Gabriella too?
She is a late returner compared to EJ but would I be right in thinking that EJ is an earlier bird than most females?
Our herring gulls are red listed birds. Think about that the next time you hear some flaming idiot calling for a cull of them.
I have started a project to plot where juveniles have come to grief. However I have added a point to show "Gabriella's" wintering grounds.

Yes EJ is a very early returner.
I know it makes no logical sense but it's almost as if she knows the nest she occupies is a special one.

Roy Dennis in "Life of Ospreys" devotes quite a bit of time to EJ. I feel sure that she would have remained where she was if she had not been evicted by Green 7B, in 2003, who was a granddaughter of Ollie. One small event that changed the course of osprey history.
Elsewhere I recently explained how a similar little known event had a huge effect on osprey history.
Your link doesn't work for me Tiger.
I imagine all ospreys think (know) their nest is special Clare :)
