A dreich Saturday. Sent OH for messages while I did domestic stuff. Now left him un-ravelling tangled AV cables in the dining room and setting up DVD player which we moved there six months ago when we bought new DVD/HDD recorder for lounge. So I am heeding Diane’s advice and doing the sensible thing – having a sit down and going back through a couple of days chat!
Maureen – I don’t know whether I have already said this, but it’s so good to see you back – glad you are feeling a bit better. Yes, Lily and her cub are great viewing – and the cubs efforts to escape the bear hug are so entertaining at times. Margobird – sorry to read about your recurring health issues – hope you don’t have to wait to long for the skin cancer surgery. Heron – consider yourself on the receiving end of a nod and a smile from me! Hope you are having a good weekend. Diane and others – re talking to snakes, birds and inanimate objects: first time S-i-L #1 ever stayed at our house, he walked into the kitchen in the morning and was surprised to hear me speaking with nobody else there – I assured him “It’s o k, I was just talking to the tea-pot” - but he still married D# and they’ve been together 23 years! Terry – I don’t really do much in the garden – mine is mostly a supervisory role - and looking after the greenhouse, and even for that I need help lifting and carrying stuff - so OH is kept very busy. Annette – no webcam and skype for me – can’t let you all see the wreck that I often am! Did you ever ID that large brown bird on the wire? DibnLib – my father always used to stand up while still chewing his last mouthful, grab the plates and almost run to the kitchen to start washing up – then he complained that I didn’t do the dishes, but I could never get there first. I don’t like having an ironing pile, and often it does get done as soon as dry, but a few items are a pile to me, and I have to be feeling fit to do it. DjoanS – pleased the BP is coming down for you – don’t overdo the gardening! AQ – not just you, I too read Dibnlib’s report as “face painting”! You lose your political junk mail as ours increases. They only have to announce a general (UK National) election three weeks ahead, but we all know it has to happen before June, so it is talked about for ages before it happens, and each party is looking for a scandal to smear the other parties!
Well, I reached the end of yesterday and am needed to advise on returning stuff to shelves, so will look at today later!
Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!
20/03 13:51 PERTH & KINROSS : Osprey, Loch of the Lowes SWT [S]unringed male seen on the nest for 5 minutes but not the usual male (10:30)Looks like it was not one of the usual pair.
Feeding time at NBG:
Morning all: First off, when should we start the Daily Update page? Per Tiger, there's already one at Loch of the Lowes!!! Does everyone know where/how to start a new thread? If so, the lucky person to see The First LG Osprey of the 2010 season can start it;?
Tiger: Marvellous photo - puts everything (especially those piles of ironing) in perspective. Oh dear TIger, that's awfuly young. Is that the gentleman you were wondering about a couple of months back?
Lindybird: The surface of the earth looks otherworldly in itself. At 3,718 metres (12,198 ft), that's a pretty high mountain. Hope the party was fab.
OG: Too bad when so few people show up to these eco-events. Will you hand out info to friends? I'm always chatting to people in supermarkets, etc,, at the fish counter about the sustainability of what's on offer. The Monterey Bay Aquarium, up north, publishes an annual pocket guide to what's being overfished, fished to the detriment of the environment and/or other species, and just plain old polluted - it fits right in my wallet so handy for whipping out at a moment's notice. Hate dealing with all those TV/Audio cables and connections; my list for the weekend is to organize the stereo stuff that has been stuffed in yet another closet for months and see how we might hook it up with the new flat-screen TV I'm determined to buy in near future. Hee-hee. Talking to the tea pot (wasn't steeping fast enough, no doubt!) Re that large brown bird: I ended up deciding it was an obese Dove - but I'm still not sure. Definitely had a dove's face, but as I said, never seen one that big and apparently fat.
Djoan: A budgie! Probably not much return re BP on stroking such a tiny creature. I was in the pet store with daughter the other week and they had an "English" budgie that the guy said was typically larger than "other" (unspecified) budgies (or parakeets?) and was more likely to talk. When I was growing up we had one called Robbie who talked with an Irish accent because my Mom was always chatting to him.
Alan: Great closeup of the three bobbleheads.
Wonderful shot Alan.
Margobird
I wonder where these two are heading:20/03 16:38 HERTFORDSHIRE : Osprey, Amwell GPs [S]two flew north late afternoon (16:15)
DjoanS I have 2 cockatiels. They are a pair of fusspots. They spend most of the time out of their cage. Their favourite place is sitting on my shoulder having the heads tickled. They do wonders for my BP.
Hi Diane, I play the flute. I think we were having a choir discussion one day and I joined in that, but not sure whether I mentioned the flute playing as well. Concert in Carlisle on Tuesday so last-minute practising going on.
Wet here this morning but still went into Lakes for walk (Lake District, of course, not literally the lakes J) Brightened up pm but we were back by then. It has been 60 degrees today (15 C, not sure why but I always do cold temps in C and warm ones in F) but it is still getting pretty chilly in the evening, must now go and light the fire.
Thanks for all news about osprey movements, it’s really building up now. Does anyone know if the ones coming through Hertfordshire go on to Scandinavia?
