Weekly Chat, Sunday, March 14

Hi all: Lots of news about ospreys and other stuff plus photos (if you're lucky!)  on the previous pages.

  • Just took this great shot of the Estonia white tailed eagle:

  • Cirrus , if you click anywhere on your posting, you will find it is acting as a link  to the Pale Male site .

  • Cirrus      I do not think anyone knows what age Pale Male is but suffice to say he is no spring chicken (or should that ne no spring red tailed hawk). He was first noticed in Central Park about 1991 and was thought to be about 2 years old then. So the answer is that he is at least 20 years old and probably more.

I would give you a link to the Vanity Fair article on Pale Male and Lola but for some reason it is not working this morning.

Marie Winn wrote a book about them called Red-Tails in Love and it it is a good read.  ISBN 0-7475-4203-1

  • Tiger  very many thanks indeed. And I note according to the countdown clock  8 days 12 hours .......   ulp !!!!!!!!

Alan  OUTSTANDING.  I so enjoyed looduskalender last year. Thanks.

  • Good morning Cirrus life is certainly getting exciting now.  Loads of osprey sightings comining in and I just can't wait to see EJ and Odin (I hope).   Hope you are keepting well and have a good day.

  • Good morning Alan what a great shot thank you.  I was lucky enough last year when they went up into the nest to band the eagle.  A case of being in the right place at the right time.  Have a good day and hope your weather is like ours here in Poole, bright and sunny although we are still gettig frosts in the morning.

  • Good morning tiger and that is a great picture.  I so hope Lola and Pale Male will successfully breed.  I look everyday at the wonderful photographs that Lincoln takes.  There is a little story at the end of the photographs which is really quite touching although some people might not be too keen.  Have a good day.

  • Hi to you All. The sun is shining again. Just trying to catch up with two days of your postings.

Diane, Hope you are feeling so much better today. I go to the hairdresser every 5/6 weeks to have my hair cut. He is not very inquisitive. His conversation lately is more about his girlfriend and the house they are buying. Thanks for the truck cam.

Annette, Your book club sounds good. I haven't read the book but the Rasberry Tarte and chocolate coated ice cream bonbons sound delicious.

Tiger, sorry to read that they think Pale Male is possibly getting too old to father any more chicks.

Alan, Thanks for all the nest updates and pictures. LG doesn't sound to be nearly ready yet for the season, be it weatherwise or workwise, but the ospreys will arrive when they see the time is right. Very exciting now with all the recent sightings.

I don't think any of you are 'a grouch' but love to hear your opinions.

  • Hello Diane and so pleased you are feeling a little better.  Home made remedies often the best I think.  When my stomach is out of sorts I drink lemondae or coca cola.  They so say champagne is good as well but I don't think I could justify drinking champagne to settle an unhappy stomach.  Have a good day.
