Weekly Chat, Sunday, March 14

Hi all: Lots of news about ospreys and other stuff plus photos (if you're lucky!)  on the previous pages.

  • Afternoon all - just been catching up on a few days of posts - had a busy few days so I didn't get time before now!

Cold and overcast here today, but the sun is trying to get through. I started to do a bit of work in the garden first thing - but came indoors as it was so cold :((

Had a lovely day on Thursday at Hauxley nature reserve  - just the 'usual suspects' around on the ponds, but they have spent the last couple of months clearing some of the bushes and have installed a hide and feeders for the woodland birds. We spent a couple of hours watching all the small birds - but I think I may take a small cushion next time :)))

Thanks to everyone for chat/ links/ history/ pics etc - isn't all the osprey talk getting exciting!!

    Take care all

Joan - avid bird and nature watcher in Northumberland!

  • Hello and happy Mothers' Day to UK mums! I'm happy to report that middle daughter got a call from her hubby in Afghan, they are 'settling in OK and it is very hot ' was the only part of his call that was relayed to me! Their son 11, was teary and couldn't speak to his Dad but his very feisty little sister more than made up for it.

My youngest daughter got breakfast in bed today, part of which was ?toast/Fried bread with a heart shape cut out, and an egg cooked in the space - if you know what I mean!  AAAHHH, the romance of it all----- !

Annette, I hate ironing like a lot of us, and try to avoid it whenever possible.  I have a vision of a big basket of ironing in your house and also lots and lots of books. I know where I would be spending my time---

  • OG - I have just seen the crocuses!  Beautiful. The photos seem to come and go, as you said.

  • Morning all: Happy Mothering Sunday to all UK Moms on the blog.

Diane: Hope that 'flu doesn't take hold and that a good night's rest has sorted it out.  :-(

OG: Indeed, the osprey excitement is mounting - and to think we were all just regretting their departure. Crocus pix looks good. OH has started to sort books, but I walked into the room yesterday and immediately spotted one that he already has!  This is not unusual.  OG/AQ:  Re Aspens, I was in New Mexico in October where they have "quaking" Aspens (common in higher elevations of the U.S.)  that shimmer and shake.  Quite a sight when there's a breeze. Do like your poetry musings - I remember having to learning "Shalott."

Brenda: Hope you have a nice lunch with kids.

Djoan: Not long now; keep wondering when the LG webcam will go up.

Alan: Went to Elton site and the main house is wonderful (not many pix of the garden center), but I'd be quite happy with the cottage for rent on the property!

Heather:  Grandson is obviously taking his Dad's absence pretty hard.  Wonder what constitutes "very hot" in Helmand Province after the UK winter you've all had. Fried bread? Yum. I rememer that - and I do believe we cooked it in lard!   Really must do ironing today or won't be able to leave the house.

    Off to start the day

  • Annette :  Elton is a lovely little village with 2 nice pubs and Elton Hall with the garden centre.

    This has just come through:

    14/03 15:22  WEST SUSSEX : Osprey, Westdean Woods  [S]
one flew north mid-afternoon; also ringtail Hen Harrier at 13:30 (14:50)

  • The folks on Phoebe's page are expecting a hatch today or tomorrow.

  • Thanks for the truckcam, Diane, he's delivering at the moment, it'll be fascinating to see him moving through America. Love the cat vids, especially where she plays with raindrops on the windscreen, and falls off the hotel tv, and what a life story she has (I'll read his next).

OG, I was going to say your crocuses have disappeared but I refreshed and there they were, beautiful! That's the first time a refresh has brought the pics back for me.

Just watched a Columbo tv film, Murder in Malibu. Lovely shots of the coast, so I was imagining Annette up on those cliffs counting whales.

  • There are usually 3-400 people watching Phoebe, but it's up to 1500 at the moment with an egg expected to hatch any moment.

  • TerryM: My sister and bro-in-law say they used to watch Baywatch just for the scenes of the beaches! Oh dear, I have weeds to pull and other chores so will have to just pop in and out to see Phoebe and our trucker dude - looks cold up there in Washington state.
