Weekly Chat (Non-Osprey), Sunday 25 August 2013

HAPPY NEW WEEK!!!

Here's a link to last week's Weekly Chat thread. The code for this week's Weekly Chat is WC250813 (in case you ever want to search for it from the search box).

I was away most of last week, and I think it's too late for me to get caught up on replies. I have read all of your news and have loved all the photos!

I enjoyed the report and pics from AQ's most recent trip (yay, ducks! And loved that pelican, also the big trees). Wonderful photos from Mulberry and NiteOwl (lilies are one of my very, very favorite flowers; yours are super lovely!). Beautiful dragonfly from Alicat.

I really loved the very majestic photos from Lindy -- ducks and deer! Woo hoo! That's an especially beautiful species of deer. Beautiful hibiscus from Alan. Love your increasingly subversive signatures, Alan. LOL! Glad that Mulberry saw an osprey! Happy belated birthday to Jess.

Glad that Cerist at Dyfi has been found! Nice to see Mike posting here. Brenda: Are you glad or relieved to say good-bye to the puppy? LOL

OG: Hope your sparrow hawk was okay after the window strike! Thanks for posting the excellent photos of handsome Diesel, handsome George, and your own beautiful self!

Nice to see Lynette. I hope you have a grand holiday in Austria.

I hope that Limpy is feeling better!

I'm so very glad that Margo has had good results from the chemo. Sending good energy to you, Margo.

Everyone have a great week! It's Indian Summer here and the temperatures this week will be 90 - 100 F (32.2 - 37.7 C) with very high humidity. Yuck.

  • Taken from the stop the cull Facebook Page. These people are absolutely brilliant and an inspiration to all of us:

"Just thought I'd share with you all one badger activist's account from Thursday Such an inspiration to see people coming out to help save the badgers.

"We went around Somerset cull zones on Thursday night. It was amazing to see so many other groups out and about, walking around making themselves seen so the savage hunters couldn't shoot. We met some sabs who had actively stopped some shooting near Roadwater, hats off to them. Keep up the good work. At times it can seem meaningless driving around in circles but as long as you jump out of your car and make a bit of commotion, they cant shoot!! BRING ITT!!!!"

  • I just had to have a look at the link to Boomtown Rats and a follow up to an earlier version!- takes me back to the early 80s when I saw them at the local Uni. Must say I would not go along now though, it seems so Loud!!  probably an age thing...

I have been 'lurking' and keeping up with the ospreys and also often look into this thread, thanks for the chat and lovely photos.

Unfortunately, I have not been able to visit my local ospreys at Bassenthwaite this season, due to an operation on my ankle, much better now though.

  • I've just bought my ticket to see them in Norwich - I can't wait!  They can't be any louder than Megadeth or Iron Maiden - can they?  Mr Geldof looked in fine form at the IOW Festival - not bad for a 61-year-old at all.

Our herring gulls are red listed birds.  Think about that the next time you hear some flaming idiot calling for a cull of them.

  • Mr G did lok in fine form, wish I had half his energy!  The loudest band I ever heard was Uriah Heep, they were my brother's choice I may say. My ears hurt for ages after that! He was a fan of Black Sabbath, I seem to think. I have not seen the two you mention so can't compare. I'm sure you will enjoy the concert in Norwich.

  • The loudest band I ever heard was Motorhead at Cambridge Corn Exchange - I made the mistake of being at the front when they started to play and it was so loud my ears couldn't make sense of the noise!  All I could hear was this vague, loud roar. I ended up having to go right to the back - I started making out the individual songs about four songs into the gig.

Iron Maiden are fantastic live - see them if you get the chance.  Megadeth are great as well - their lead singer might not have the greatest of voices but there is clearly no auto-tuning so full marks to him!  Black Sabbath are awesome - I saw the original line-up in Birmingham in 1997 and they were brilliant!

  • Afraid I can't take the noise anymore, though I enjoyed the bands I did see, a favourit was Queen on the Killer Queen tour. Taking me back aways here!

  • Have you tried ear plugs?  I took my daughter to see the Scorpions when she was eight and I provided her with a pair of ear defenders - it was a good move as they were very loud.

I never got to see Queen - one of my biggest regrets in life is that I never saw the incredible Freddie Mercury on stage.
