Breagh, last to leave, may not be as hungry as we think, since he may be fishing for himself, and we will not see it. Will Odin's apparent departure spur him on to leave on migration south for 2-3 yrs? ENS to come for fall, winter and part of spring... until EJ and Odin return. May they be safe.

Looking at C & T's stats, LG chicks these last few years have been 36 days between fledge and migrate - so for Breagh that would be tomorrow. Oighrig, of course, went earlier at 35 days so maybe today's the day :-)

Good morning all. Lovely post Chocoholix! Id forgotten the fish overboard and I agree its been a great season and really many thanks go to every one for keeping us all updated with all the events of the season! I was not able to watch the nests live, so am very grateful to you all.
I feel very sad that the season is over for us, but only really just beginning for these two Best wishes to Odin, EJ and the two juveniles. Hope to see them again next year and in two to three years for the youngsters.
Have undone the update, damn Google+, I cancelled that account immediately after being persuaded to open it.

Loch Garten have been consistant over the past two years where all four birds (TORE-BYNACK-ALBA-CALEDONIA)migrated 36 days after fledge. Trouble is only 3 of the previous 18 birds at LG are confirmed as males.
BREAGH fledge after 52 days so expect him to be on his way soon.
Is Odin still around or has he left - ?
CLARE, I know too well the draw of the PC and the lovely ospreys that we follow. I tried to limit my involvement and failed!;-) Will be looking for migrating ospreys from the train window as I head to south London.
So it is end of season. My prediction some time ago was for the season to end on 24 August. Seems that might have been a good guess.
I do not think that either Breagha or Oighrig have fished yet and will probably not do so until their first stopover on migration. I always cite Deshar as waiting starving for four days and then flying the whole of Britain before definitely catching a fish.
These birds are well laden with fat to sustain them until they really need to eat.

Morning all, Clare did Breagh have a fish from your earlier comment, sorry in my phone and can't make out the snap clearly
Odin hasn't been seen for a couple of days, Keith, so he could well have gone.
Our herring gulls are red listed birds. Think about that the next time you hear some flaming idiot calling for a cull of them.
Sorry Birdsong we must both have been thinking similar at the same time.
Clare Bailey said: Well, that answers one question! Either he's fishing for himself or Odin must still be about.

Sadly not CLARE (morning everyone) in 2010 the two youngest juvies were three days without fish whilst Odin calmly ate his own in front of them, in the camera tree :( . The eldest migrated days before those two but eventually they took the hint from dad and first the second hatched and then the last hatched rose up to spiral higher and higher and them fly south.
