Caledonia
Hatched on 16th May 2012, fledged on 14th July and left Loch Garten on 19th August.
The travels of Caledonia and her sister Alba were first followed in this thread, now closed. Caledonia is the first juvenile osprey tracked from Loch Garten to settle in Europe; she has been living on the northern outskirts of Seville for nearly a year now.
Caledonia’s ring is Blue/White AA1, reading downwards. LG blog on the ringing and tagging of Caledonia & Alba.
I agree its better to know the truth as hard as it may be! I still wonder about dear Alba too! I now just hope the two boys will sucessfully mature and return one day! Loch Garten certainly deserve some good news after all their heart break! Until then the very best wishes for a safe return to EJ and Odin ( Lets hope they behave themselves this year!)
So sorry to hear this.
I was in Seville over Christmas, though I did not see Caledonia. Though we don't yet know where she was found, I was struck by something I had already suspected by looking at photos; the number of hazards around, both static (tall buildings, high voltage cables) and even moving ones - city traffic crossing the bridges which she often overflew. It sounds like fog may have been the fatal element.
R.I.P.Caledonia gone but not forgotten.

I've just read the very sad news about Caledonia, totally devasted! Not enough words to describe how I feel.
So sad news :((((

OMG Have only just read this news I am in pieces....and here we have been so happy that she has been safe in Spain.....and we were anticipating her return this spring
What shocking and unbelievable news. Fly free our beautiful Cally.
I am trying to comfort myself a little that she had a really nice, if far too short a life and she had a quick death. If only we could put the clock back and somehow keep her from harm.
New blog. Poor Caledonia's accident occurred at a convent.

Sat track schedule Spring 2014
LG 7 days; RW & SWT nil; LDOP varies
Yes I remember this convent building - it was only a couple of blocks from the hotel where we stayed over Christmas, and we went up there to get the bus sometimes.
It's a long way off being the tallest construction in the area; there are blocks of flats, Barqueta bridge, the Camera Obscura - but perhaps Caledonia was trying to avoid those things, and miscalculated in the fog. At least it seems to be a peaceful place in the busy city.

Afterthought - maybe she was intending to land on the roof of the convent church, either to eat a freshly caught fish, or just to have a break between fishing attempts.
Caledonia's final movements are not on GE yet. I wonder if LG will put them on.

I presume that's not meant literally :-/
